Yes they have nodded to eachother's great works, in Spielberg's CEOTTK, when the massive ship comes up from behind Devil's Tower, a quick blink-and-you'll-miss-it you can see a R2-D2 attached upside down to the ship; and in Lucas's Ep1 TPM, you can see ET's race of Aliens present on their own platform in the Galactic Senate Chamber.
