Ralph is a awesome person that can sing , Most lead singers have “ Ego’s” and insist that it be nurtured , He is naturally a Team player , He will do what’s expected of him and expect the same of you . That disposition he had got him screwed in the business aspect of his Career, And bc he not cut that way he can’t see it (bc he don’t operate like that) He’s the lead singer of a group he comes to a studio session and informed a another major artist is now a member of the group ( where they do that at ?) What he do .. he obliges the situation and do his part as if nothing is a issue.. That’s a testament to his character as a decent person .. he should have raised a little hell for not being included on the direction of the group .. He’s simply not a leader , which is fine .. He’s a had a decent solo career he’s apart of one of the best R&B groups of all time … he’s done some producing .. All in all a proud musical Career that he can be proud of … NE , BBD, all have his imprint on them .. Job well done ❤️❤️❤️💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🐐🐐🐐🐐

They're NOT a band, they're a GROUP! You see any instruments? Bass, drums, guitars, horns, keys, percussion etc. I know their voices are technically "instruments", but it's different than an instrument you PLAY in a band. I've played instruments my entire life and believe me when I tell you this.

@blakebrown84

Tito and Jermaine played guitars and made the group for what it is today. When he left Motown, they were forced to change their name from the Jackson 5 to The Jacksons. All of the brothers except Jermaine had to leave Berry Gordy behind and start writing and producing their own music. Michael is the only lead singer in the group. Randy Jackson became the new member of the group after Jermaine decided to leave and stay at Motown. Jermaine was married to the boss’s daughter at that time. Jermaine returned to the group 7 years later and rejoined them. Afterwards, Michael and Marlon decided to leave the group at the end of the Victory Tour. In the early 90s, they decided to call it quits because they wanted to live normal lives and raise their families. Today, all of the members except Michael and Randy decided to perform together once again as The Jacksons in 2012 and they ain’t missed a step and still going strong. Michael died in 2009 and they all know how much they miss him and won’t be the same without him.

@@gifi11 . Yes, I agree Ralph held it down as a true leader. However, the producers wanting Ralph as a solo artist from the get go, again would not have made a difference. He was not a very good solo act. It is what it is. Perhaps it was the songs that were chosen. I remember Ralph's album and it was lackluster. Some artist are better in a group. That is totally fine.

@@jenisejackson5408Ralph was a great solo act. And had he went solo when he originally planned too, and released the type of album he was originally gonna release, then he would’ve been more successful. The whole sensitivity thing was a plan B, as he had to scrap his project to do another NE album. So for his solo debut to be something he had to quickly come up with and be a plan B, it still did great and he was successful. Him not selling as much as the other doesn’t take away from the success he had.

Because it was about timing. Bobby left 1st and was able to get his break 1st both with king of stage "86" and a 4 year tour with don't be cruel'88' had Bobby dropped the mystical magic album in 90-91 things would've been differently and he would been a bigger star. johnny also used time to his advantage during the recordings of the heart break album he used that time to record his solo self titled album"90" with baby face, la reid and other producers that's why you barley hear him on the heart break album. BBD had to survive because Ralph was going to leave anyways so they got in the studio then dropped poision "90" and they should've dropped hootie mack in "91/92" they would've had a longer run Ralph recorded his original album living in a dream around 87 had that dropped when it was supposed Ralph would've been launched into superstardom however after all his group members dropped their projects he waited the longest to drop his album. Also his second album its going down"93" was decent considering he produced most of it by himself i give him props love at 1st sight it one of my favorite tracks imo mca dropped the ball with all of these artists Ralph should've left with johnny to go with mowtown. Bobby and BBD should've dropped their albums sooner .

@@jhonram2496i respectfully disagree. I started out as a bass player on tour with Troop in 1990 3 months after I turned 18. What you’re saying about Ralph we can’t say what “would” have happened.. what we do know is his music wouldn’t have been hitting based off what he was trying to convey. The early 90’s was about those hard beats, be it fast or slow. The crooner style of man was done with. Ralph fell in the cracks because his content was between the 80’s crooners of Freddie Jackson, Peabody Bryson l, etc, but his voice was still bubblegum sounding that wouldn’t appeal to the older ladies. Johnny got away with it because his voice was for the grown, but they gave him a “hip” sound. This is why Johnny has sustained. His voice appeals to older ladies, like the age of my mama, but he carried our age along with him because we grew up with him (the 50 year olds). It’s the same with Bobby and BBD. They latched on to the early 90’s street sound. It worked for a hot minute, but that’s all they could do. That played out, and they had no where else to go because they couldn’t do anything else. Bobby wasn’t the greatest singer. He was more performer than singer, but he marketed himself as a bad boy, and couldn’t do anything else with it. So, switching his content wasn’t going to happen. BBD couldn’t sing at all. They were a fad. So we know they weren’t going to sustain at all. Ralph could have had a chance to sustain like Johnny IF he jumped on the Neo soul content that was coming out. Ralph should have come right here to Philly in the kid 90’s, chopped it up with all of us at The Five Spot, and got down. It’s truly why fee R&B solo artists didn succeed more. The early 90’s was about image over anything.

@@Keepdapocket I get what you're saying to a certain extent but we're both kinda agreeing to the same point . Ralph did have k-ci write some of the songs but yes to your point it was still missing that hard beat "rated R" was kinda meh as a single . But again that why I said had he should've released his solo album earlier he would've caught on the wave and have higher sales. @@jhonram2496 I wish man. That’s the thing with being “old” haha no cell phones in my day. I was heavily into the Neo soul thing. Those were my prime years, and being from Philly, that’s just how it was. I know I have some VHS tapes in my parents basement somewhere for sure haha. I kind of “retired” from performing so much in the early/mid 2000’s after getting married. Basically just play locally at Zanzibar Blue and WarmDaddy’s. Jam out, of course. I still run into Jaz ( Jazzy Jeff) from time to time. Bilal will call up when he has a show from time to time if he can’t find another bass player. Which is cool. And, no, I was not “big time” in my hey day. I would say the biggest tour I did was Jill Scott across the country. Other than that, it would mainly be those three city promotional tours for new albums or whatever, or a few shows here and there. But, yeah, we agree totally. Ralph definitely should have dropped his FIRST! Ralph had stage presence as well. Just because he wasn’t buckwild, I feel he would have given a good show on the solo tip. What I never understood is friend is friends, and business is business. For the life of me, i never understood why they kept giving Bobby a chance haha like when they got back together with six of them. They knew Bobby would be late and not show up and all that. It couldn’t have been me at all. Sure, we came out the sandbox together, but you know how you are and I know how you are. If you ain’t with the group thing im cool with that, but you ain’t messing up my money homie. We’ll just hang out afterwards haha

Ralph has mentioned how fellas were hating on them back in the day because of all the ladies coming to their shows. We're stilling coming. Our men suddenly wanna come to shows too.

You can't judge a member of a group by their popularity. A lot of those members do the most behind the scenes. When they aren't there. The music isn't the same. I believe Ronnie Devoe held the dancing and clothing styles down for N. E.

Man New Edition is the best R&B group in my era. The Temptations may be better but that’s not my era so I didn’t see it. One thing I don’t think any other group has done except for New Edition is split up and every last member be super successful.

Great interview! Like all NE fans we know Rizz is the true front man, but in terms of vocals l think Ricky Bell has always been criminally overlooked for his comparable talent, it's probably cause he doesn't have the traditional "look" of a lead - at least not when compared to RT, Bobby or even JG. 🙏🏿+👊🏿 from London Pierre#NE4Ever
