Great episode. Now we need someone to make a blueprint of this museum.

This was one of my favorite EE episodes...really eye opening conversation about comic creators influence on the industry as a whole, and I would love to see an episode for Editor HoF/Mt Rushmore
@michaelthethird7023 жыл бұрын
I think that the Mt. Rushmore of comics should include: Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Will Eisner, and Garner Fox. I feel like Grant Morrison, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, and Marv Wolfman could be alternates or a second monument.
@crisis982 жыл бұрын
I'd have Simon or Schuster, Lee, Kirby, and Moore. I feel bad about leaving Eisner off, but I just can't bring myself to cut someone from this list. It's the people that created the superhero genre and the people that modernized it.
@MrPink-qf1xi3 жыл бұрын
Will Eisner Stan Lee Jack Kirby Alan Moore (I am perfectly sure about the first 3 but I can't find anyone else to put in here other than Moore) These would be my 4, their work is always great and always will be. They are the most influential and iconic ones. I think you have to put both Lee nad Kirby on here cause both did a lot of work in their fields, Kirby maybe worked more but Lee was the representative of comicbooks for everone outside of comics, today everone is familiar with his face and I believe he earned it, he was always a beacon of positivity and joy. Without even one of these 4 I think comicbook industry and everything about it or connected to it would not be the same.

As I was listening to you guys talk when this was originally on the main channel, it sounded more like it would less be a Mt. Rushmore and more an Age of Ultron Credits CG Marble Sculpture. Each individual section would look kind of cool but altogether it would just be a big hodgepodge. Then you mentioned more and more just every subtheme and subgenre of some sort gets its own wing in a museum and there's a bunch of individual statues. Yeah, that sounds a lot better.

This is a good point. Choosing only four to stand above everyone else is a tough choice for anyone.

Simon & Schuster (Washington), Will Eisner (Jefferson), Stan Lee (Roosevelt), Jack Kirby (Lincoln). you can swap the last two but yeah...my simple list
@spheremode3271 Жыл бұрын
Really fun discussion. My Mt Rushmore would be: Artists: Eisner, Infantino, Adams, Kirby Authors: Eisner, Lee, Moore, Miller I should note that this is for western superhero-adjacent comics only. It would be exceedingly difficult to do one for the entire medium of comics. I also based the lists on influence on the industry, not on my personal enjoyment of their work (although I really like all their work).
@orangepalette82643 жыл бұрын
My mount rushmore would absolutely be Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Alan Moore or Neil Gaimen and maybe either Will Eisner or Bill Finger

For me, it would have to be Lee, Kirby, Eisner, and then there’s a host of people fighting for fourth place: Claremont, Miller, Moore, etc. It’s hard to separate “writing absolutely amazing stories” and “fundamentally creating/changing the comic book industry”.
@monitor-mindtheover-void67123 жыл бұрын

I feel like any creator too associated with a single publisher shouldn't be considered. Which, interestingly, means no Stan Lee, no Bill Finger, no Marston, etc. for me. Eisner gets in because he's sort of the OG, and because he kept innovating as an independent creator for decades (up to and including early Graphic Novel _A Contract with God_ which came out in the 70's). Kirby gets in because he was there early doing Captain America, then did so much for 60's Marvel and 70's DC. Even though he's newer, I feel like McFarlane gets it for Marvel and Image stuff, in terms of really shaking up the industry. My 4th is probably Alan Moore. Like it or not, he brought a literary sensibility to modern comics that elevates the medium in a way that informs several (I think better) subsquent creators, like Gaiman and Morrison. And while he's MOSTLY known for stuff he did at DC, his most celebrated work is Watchmen, which is only tangentially (and retroactively) in the DC multiverse. And there's worthwhile non-Big-Two books like _From Hell_ that are worth celebrating.
