Probably not intentional on Araki’s part but Joseph using hermit purple in SC to swing off buildings in Cairo always gave me Spider-man vibes. Like I said, probably not intentional but we know one of Joseph’s hobbies was collecting comic books so my head canon has always been that Joseph read Spider-man and wanted to try web-swinging with hermit purple when his stand manifested.
@Tera_GX

I think that has more in common with the way Indiana Jones used his whip to swing. As a matter of fact, old Joseph's design pretty heavily carries Indiana Jones vibes, so that might be an intentional direction.

Interesting stuff, especially the huge Enki Bilal influence on the series. There is one reference you forgot to mention, but it's also something that a lot of people tend to overpass when reading/watching Jojo. In chapter 1 and episode 1 of Stardust Crusaders, there's an officer with a unibrow and broad-ish face. It's pretty obvious that that's a cameo/reference to Ryotsu from Kochikame, aka one of the longest running Jump manga.

@@stzechmagenta1340 sounds likely. As time passes, it's getting increasingly harder to come up with truly original concepts as almost everything has been done before to a certain extent, the art of writing fiction is to leave your own mark on it and getting inspired without completely copying something. Jojo's is a good example because even though the series has been influenced by other media, Araki managed to make something original out of it.

There seems to be a good amount of Kinnikuman references in Jojo, seeing as its one of the biggest inspiration for a lot of shonen and was why manga like Yu Yu Hakusho shifted to a Tournment Arc. Theres also a good amount of characters in Jojo that take inspiration from it and may also be why part 3 has a more multinational cast and settings. A few characters that could possibly have inspiration from Kinnikuman characters would be Joseph who shares many characteristics to the main character Kinniku and Polnareff who could draw inspiration from the character Terryman as they share a similar kind of introduction and development in the main cast.

Also in the Blue Lagoon arc in Part 8, there is a character called Nami (like in One Piece), she is a bystander Josuke thinks is under the influence Dolomite's stand, but she exclaims she just has some stuff leaking out of her eye.

So I'm presuming the direction by Will Zeppeli to defeat Jack the Ripper without spilling any wine predates the section of Initial D where Bunta (I believe) tells Takumi to deliver the tofu with the AE86 without spilling any water from the cup? Otherwise it belongs in this list. I just watched that episode of Phantom Blood again and was instantly reminded of it.

Oh yeah, just checked Inital D's manga run: only started in 1995, so wasn't even an idea when Phantom Blood was being written. - so that makes the scene in Inital D a JoJo reference?
