Not even close. Xavier did far worse than Cyclops did (and in less perilous circumstances) prior to the Gala. Cyclops worst actions in AVX happened after Tony Stark infected him with a primordial parasite that he could not host. Xavier did what he did while stone-cold sober. Moira simply convinced him to take a more lethal path.

I might get some flak for this, but I've always hated the nation of Krakoa from its inception. Xavier's dream was essentially MLK's was, for everyone to be judged by their character, not anything outside of their control. Krakoa was, in my eyes, giving up. Does it make sense? Yeah, sure, but it always rubbed me the wrong way since it presented characters like Apocalypse and Sinister in a (very minimally) positive light. Not only that, but these characters (most heroes in Marvel for that matter) are supposed to be lessons in morality, having the X-Men essentially give up on _the_ dream and segregate themselves from everyone else presents a _bad_ message.

No, most of the Arrako mutants were mortal. But I get the sense a there was a larger amount of immortal mutants on Arrako than on Earth.

@@joshuaohuka7719Frankly, it feels like Beast went full assimilationist. I mean, Xavier asked him to head up a CIA and he was still hanging around Abigail Brand. Aka Joss Whedon’s answer to the question “what if America’s Middle Eastern policy walked around on two legs?” Side note, the inclusion of Threnody on Beast’s list of crimes was in part because of an episode of the Podcast Cerebro where the guest of the Threnody episode read Hank McCoy for filth. It was wonderful. Still wished she appeared.

I feel like Moira's power was just that. A power, not an ability. Ability implies that you are able to use it or it was able to happen (or not). Her power was that of "cause and affect" and not something she was "able" to do but may or may not always happen or be chosen.

This was Kitty's attempt at giving the Genoshan mutants another go, since resurrection was working too slowly. She created a box from mysterium, placed genetic material from the millions lost in it, and sent it back before life was thought to exist. From that box, life grew and eventually, Threshold. But war being what it is, they destroyed themselves with their own weapons, the only surviving members being Sublime, his sister Arkea, and Krakoa itself. Cassandra was left behind in the ruins of Threshold for good measure because she's not easy to kill and what harm could she do a billion years in the past? (I'm sure she'll be back, when there's a reason to do it)

@@ugoeze7360 just the Threshold mutants. They were wiped out in war when they created Sublime and Arkea as living weapons that turned on their creators. Okkara, the only survivor of Threshold, expanded and became the living island that Apocalypse and his clan would later fight to protect. It became Krakoa after that battle.

Okay I’ve been out of the loop but when did Apocalypse become a good guy. Growing up he was all about the survival of the strongest being a mutant, normal human, etc didn’t matter as long as you were strong. Yes that’s what I have a problem with lol.

Having read the Krakoan era in almost it's entirety I gotta say, this was not it. The finer details are what matters in this case so by leaving out the sins of sinister and more importantly Judgment Day you are rushing to the conclusion. The first age of the Krakoan era ended on a solid note for the mutants even though the XMen could not experience it completely. Lastly, you don't explain why this is the XMens biggest failure so your title is a little clickbaity.. I think the concept of summaries for larger stories is a good one. Just pick the ones you have time to invest in as a starter next time.

The Krakoa Era is the absolute definition of a fumble. It started off really good under Hickman. As he definitely intended for it to be a new start for the X-Men and mutants as a whole by actually giving them genuine leverage. However he clearly also made it kind of uncomfortable when you looked under the hood. Like on the surface yeah its great that mutants are finally catching some wins but under the surface Krakoa itself was definitely sketchy as hell. Like you could tell the narrative seeds were being planted that an eventual “Are we the baddies?” moment was in the works. Like how they literally created a machine that could bring any mutant (and only mutants) back to life. Demanded diplomatic immunity for all mutants anywhere on the rest of the planet. Demanded any and all mutants be turned over to them for relocation, like even trying to kidnap Franklin Richards from his ACTUAL family. Hell they even created a mutant RELIGION that basically turned their powers into something to be worshiped. Thing is though when editorial demanded that it go on for longer than he intended and he was just like “Nah” and left. And somehow the people that came *after* him didn’t pick up on all of the heavy cult and race supremacist vibes and made Krakoa into much more of a purely “good” thing. So it starts off as a unexplored territory for the X-Men with a whole bunch of interesting story concepts and a pretty heavily seeded exploration and confrontation or even internal collapse because of what happens when you find that you’ve become the thing that you claimed to oppose. Then it suddenly shifts over into “Segregation is actually kinda cool my dudes”. And it ends with the MCU coming knocking for brand synergy and Krakoa gets wiped out by outside forces and the school status quo reinstated.

The whole Krakoa age began as X-men kind of wrote themselves into a corner. One of the books I was reading had a ragtag group of Xmen led by a Cyclops who had been shot through an eye by Hope and the team was basically removing (killing) off threats to mutants, but there was no discernable direction for them and meanwhile another group of Xmen had just returned from another dimension and then poof! All of a sudden the mutants have their own Island.

This Krakoa arc is now the deffinition of waisted potential. It started AMAZINGLY to the point where it effectivly re-booted and reinvigorated the entire x-men franchise. Just to end in the most rushed, cheap and BS mannor just because the MCU likely didn't want to go that way when/if they make a movie about them. so sad.

I agree. Krakoa could have developed in a mind-blowing concept over time. It should have lasted at least ten years. But the writers (ALWAYS the writers) were too lazy to really develop Hickman's brilliant ideas further. There was absolutely no need to destroy everything so soon. But things are what they are, 20 years ago we had an absolutely BRILLIAN Morrison run where he showed what ADULT X-Men stories looked like. The X-Men were suddenly talking and acting like real flesh and blood people. Three years later Marve decided it was time to go "back to the basics", without a single book in the franchise retaining that awesome adult atmosphere crafted by Morrison. Krakoa was exactly the same thing- a highly complex and well thought out concept which actually brought the X-Men one step further, and suddenly, just like in 2004, we are "back to the basics"- ie, let's pretend we never left the 90s. It's a big downgrade, a step down. But let's celebrate.

I don’t think your summary is at fault, but as a former X-Men reader in the 1990s this storyline seems terribly written and confusing. A real world question I have is how did Marvel justify having a second storyline called “Inferno?” In my mind, the X-Men writers need to get away from the sentinels and time travel for a long time.

The only answer is that the nature of Moira’s powers is that she’s unable to be detected. However, it’s very much in the vein of smashing CCTV cameras. That’s how Destiny picked her up as an anomaly.

None of this modern rubbish. Resurrection protocols? Luxury! When I were a nipper, we had to either wait for Apocalypse to bring you back or return as clone from another dimension"

I strongly disagree with the idea that krakoa was a big mistake or failure. Yes it did fail but it wasnt a failure. In 9 dimensions all mutants are completely eradicated. In this one 99.9% of all dead mutants are reincarnated, they have their powers amplified, and most mutants get to live on in a paradise (live is a relative term here cause technically theyre.... nvm). Anyway, this is the closest we've seen mutants come to victory (if we dont count the dimensions from omega sentinel).
