My two favorite origin stories for the turtles were the 2003 incarnation of the animated one and then brand-new IDWTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where there the previous incarnation of them are stuck in an endless cycle to fight the shredder

Personally, I don't like origins like this. I think Splinter being Hamato Yoshi mutated into a rat, instead of just being a mutated rat, makes a lot more sense. Since there's no way an ordinary rat can study ninjutsu, and it adds a sense of lost humanity to his character. As far as the turtle's names, I prefer Splinter naming them, because Hamato comes off as a worldly type guy, so he'd probably studied the European Renaissance at some point in his life, whereas I don't get that feeling from April. Speaking of April, I just think it's too coincidental for April to be connected to the turtles before they've mutated. Though, I do like the idea of Raph being initially separated from the other three. Helps build the outcast nature of his character. There are things I like about this origin, Raph being separated, and them all starting out with the same colored masks, but overall, this origin just feels rushed.

Phantom9252 While I do agree with you about no ordinary rat being able to learn ninjutsu, it is explained in the second trade and therefore our next video. Splinter, The Turtles and Shredder are in a infinite cycle of reincarnation. They are destined to always battle each other and through their past lives they've learned all their skills.

Phantom9252 Alos he's not just an "ordinary" rat - he's been altered to have human intelligence :) . As well as comicstorian just noted, there is the reincarnation side to the story that builds on their ninja life. It's a very strange concept but the comic does a great job at pulling it off! Would recommend reading the series in its entirety :) . On a side note I do love the origin stories where Hamoto Yoshi becomes Splinter the rat, but from memory his first origin was him being just a normal rat, and pet of Yoshi, who learnt the ninjitsu art from watching his owner train!

With "Convergence" in full swing and Secret Wars on the way, I was wondering if you guys could do one of your Dramatic readings for the story "The Nearest of you" from the series "Astro City". It tells the story of a big superhero Time/Reality warping event, just like the Big Events in the MU and DCU, but through the eyes of the every man, and it does it in 16 pages rather than 20 issues. Its a powerful story that I promise will pull some heart strings. If you guys haven't read the series Astro City, you really should, IMHO it is one of the best Superhero comi in the past 20 years. I urge people reading this to at least look it up.

I really like these comics slowly picking them up and comixology has/had a deal to get the trades (4 issues) for 4 dollars apiece. Really love what goes on with raphael. Actual give a pretty good reason to why he would clash with leonardo. Though the spiritual stuff got a bit weird. Also splinter is a major BAMF!

To people in the comments complaining about the origins of the IDW Turtles......doesn't anybody remember the Animated movie Turtles Forever or something like that which had the current 2000s Turtles team up with the original cartoon Turtles? It explained the Turtles live in a Multiverse and that the original Universe is the Turtles of the first comics and even go into that world and as you would imagine both teams were afraid of the Prime Turtles.....and to Comicstorian THANK YOU FOR DRAWING THE PARALLELS TO THIS STORY AND THE REBOOT FILMS with you know April basically raising the Turtles and what not....even I noticed this parallel with this version of the origin when I first saw the film.

So many poeple complaining about the changing or retelling of the TMNT origin, but I never saw any one tripping over Batman's origins numerious retellings. Each retelling has the core elements that makes the origin story stay intact, but each has something minor (or major) to make it feel new or distinct. For example: Goldenage batman established that it was Joe Chill under the orders of a crime boss to murder the Waynes. Some stories establish that Joe Chill was desperate for money and drugs and chose them randomly other scources erase Joe Chill altogether to make it a full on desperate mystery. Thats only the start.

Since you're delving into IDW, then is there a chance you could do a complete story for one of the Transformers runs like Robots in Disguise or More Than Meets the Eye? Though I suppose you'd have to tackle All Hail Megatron first to establish the IDW continuity of Transformers.

BBmetalhead04 IDW Transformers (volume one) begins with 'Megatron: Origin' and continues from 'Infiltration' until 'Devastation'. 'All Hail Megatron' is the first storyline of the second volume (the infamous Costa Run) all of which is pretty much worthless trash. The third volume of IDW Transformers begins with 'The Death of Optimus Prime' and includes Robots in Disguise and MTMTE until the present, more or less.
