The 'Dark Knight Returns' introduces interesting elements, particularly the conflicting principles of Batman and Superman. However, I am not fond of Frank Miller's portrayal of Selina Kyle and several other characters. Of course these characters are primarily adaptations in a different, more bleak timeline.

I'm familiar with both the original and animated, but what caught my attention this time was Bruce's armor design. I've already seen it somewhere else. And I mean beyound space suit or knight armor similarities. Plus the date is long before video game industry came in and had run with the designs for dozens of years to the point we see them as today.

Before I watched the animated movie. I had no idea this storyline existed as I wasn't born when it was released.. That said, I absolutely love this story. It's how I've always pictured the story of Batman (Bruce) and Superman ending. As someone else said, this is the story Batman v. Superman should've had.

Fan theory - BATMAN DOES KILL IN DKR… IT'S JUST NOT THE MUTANT KID! I have read more then a few theories about whether Batman has killed some of the mutants in the DKR, and tbh I don’t think he does. There are tons of explanations on the internat why is that not the case, and I think they're legit…if you want look them up. However, all does teasing moments when were led to believe that there's a possibility that he did kill some of them … are just Frank Miller getting us ready for the big kill. And the big kill is…drum roll… the Joker. Bear with me: First breaking your own neck, like Joker seemingly does, is humanly impossible. If you do ménage to move your head fast and hard enough all you could do is knock yourself out… literally. A knockout in boxing is when your head goes to far to fast and you lose consciousness. However, since we are talking about a comic book (ups… i ment graphic novel) with a Superman in it, i understand that saying that something isn’t possible is kind of a moot argument. BUT SECONDLY (the hart of this theory) i think Frank Miller showed us Batman killing the Joker, we just didn't realize it. If you look text boxes (speech bubbles) throughout the DKR, every major character has his/hers own color: Supermans is blue, Robin - yellow, Joker - green etc.. and Batman's text box is grey with black leathers. Of course almost all of them and the other characters have white text boxes as well, some more frequent some not so much, but their own colors never mix.. for example you don't see Batman having blue text box, or Robin green. However there is exactly ONE exceptions to this rule and that’s why I think its on purpose - the scene after Batman snaps Jokers neck and Joker seemingly talks to him. When Joker talks his text box color is gray with black letters 7.20 , something that’s attributed exclusively to Batman before that moment and any time after it. My theory is that Batman did kill the Joker, that he snapped his neck all the way … but considering everything that he's been thru that day, and more importantly that this is the first time he crossed *Thou shalt not kill* rule, his mind just couldn't comprehend it at that time, and Batman is actually talking to himself, while believing hes talking to Joker. I know some you Bathfans will be like *there's nothing Batman can't comprehend..because he's Batman* but this is THE Joker, his true arch enemy (sorry Rash). Also there is a scene a few panels further down the story where Batman is haunted by the dead body of Joker in flames, laughing at him…why? Cause he's starting to realize what he's done, that he lost to Joker by killing him, and now he laughs at him from the grave (or hell). Batman just lost this HUGE life battle, but the war, and the Bat, goes on. Also, I think this is a great explanation on why is Batman much more easy/going when it comes to killing in the sequel (whatever you may think on the quality of DKR2, or lack of it).

I always said that Dark Knight Returns saga was #2 to Kingdom Come but I like this Story a lot more. Yet I prefer the future of SUperheroes moving on vs forced retirement & imprisonment.. ~Key note was how young Carrie knew the legacy of Batman and how popular that legacy was was a nice added point... ~Part 2 Strikes Again was awesome except for dumb nonsense like Hal Jordan marrying some alien,,Superman,Shazam,WW allowing Lex Luthor/Brainiac to rule despite some heroes who coulda changed it like Ray Palmer, The Plastic Man (not Dibny,the powerful one)Barry Allen..from that pov it doesn't make sense they would all disband and not care and to be imprisoned/killed 1 by 1 until it's only Superman,WW,Shazam and they all have the same exact strengths
