Thanks for this how-to-play tutorial. It is relatively light, but has enough depth and tension to make it very enjoyable, and it has very good replay value. My family really enjoys this game.

@David K It's a solid game, easy mechanics and rules, quick to set-up and teach, and a bit of strategy and luck. All things I like. And a great introduction to Games Workshop miniature quality. :)

It looks to be an updated version of Games Workshop's very old "Lost Patrol", but with expanded rules for space marines vs. gene stealer cultists. ; )

Nice playthrough but I’d like to point out that when spawning reinforcements on occupied squares the Necrons do not spawn diagonally or around corners. Just in a strait line until the next available space. If there’s no available spaces they do not spawn on that line. Cheers!

@@DaletheCasualGamer Brother Gabriel in my opinion should have replaced Cassius since his Trait of revealing the Necron's Card during his turn actually really helps getting prepared.

I love the worlds of Games Workshop but their flagship games are too cost and time intensive for my liking. This looks like a great little thematic game. Thanks for the video!

@writerguy911 They do make some great games, and miniatures! I don't see me ever getting into the big tabletop games they have, but enjoyed this one ... and it may have led to one of the warhammer quest games ... but I really procrastinate painting, and there's quite a bit of rules to read, so not sure when I'll get that one played. ;)

20:36 - why not 4th action shoot? Oh you did it again on 22:17. So apparently you think Brother Frostclaw is melee only because the model is holding a knife. But on his card you can see his Range of 6. So he can shoot as well. 23:25 - Actually Sergeant Cassius have +1 on melee (adjacent) and need only 3 against non-upgraded Immortal. With that being said that's one of the best playthroughs (I've watched many - all I could find). You can't imagine how bad people play and what ridiculous amount of mistakes the do. You did a really solid playthrough. Waiting for the next mission.

Thanks for posting this. I was looking at picking it up because it's been on sale. But after watching your play through, I can see it wouldn't be a game for me. I hate getting hosed by dice. I enjoyed watching your videos of the game and would probably get the same amount of enjoyment as I would actually playing the game.

Just got this and started playing. Thinking about doing house rules, on necrons turn each one on the board move one space towards the closet marine. If they reach a player one damage but necron is killed. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds fun. Make it harder by spawning in another necron if it does manage to walk into a marine.

There is no such thing as a “one-shot” game when it comes to space marines. Still, it was a lovely bug hunt. Congrats. And I loved the clacky token holders. Gave me the feeling that’s what they actually sound like. You can’t spell GDW without RNG. I never liked how the dice rules everything. The trade off for having a fast game I guess.

Why did you put two tokens on square one at 13:09, when the card say place a token not two? But then only place one at 3 at 14:08?

Because the square at 13:09 was occupied, so instead of one, you have to put two on adjacent squares (if you have a marine on one of those, he gets wounded). The 14:08 was unoccupied, so only 1 enemy spawned. Hope that helped!

Love WH40k universe and the game looks light and fun. That being said I think they went with wrong enemy for how the game plays. Necrons are tough as nails and they're not very plentiful, at least not as many as say Orks or Tyranids. I think they should've gone nids or greenskins, but ymmv. Of course maybe Necrons get tougher later on and you might be on a tomb world which helps explain the number of necrons. Entertaining as always Dale, thanks!
