Outstanding presentation. Thank you all. As a fellow Puerto Rican, I remember my father waking up in night terrors from the war in Korea. Although a war hero, he was deeply scared from the war. And yet, it lead me to get my Airborne wings and become an officer. In my older years, I wrote a movie script on the 65th, and like Mr. Mercardo, realized the research for the movie was healing for my soul. Thank you for keeping the memory alive.

In many ways the story of the 65th Infantry is one of "glory denied." One of the major causes for the Regiment's deterioration was the lack of available Small Unit Leaders and Non Commissioned Officers. The personnel practices of the time moved NCO replacements that might had been originally allocated for the 65th Inf. However, once they arrived to Korea these replacement NCOs would be asigned to fill gaps in all of the 3rd ID as well as in other Infantry Units. This crass issue was a cancerous problem that was a signifficant ingredient that created the conditions for the "mutiny." The 65th became a scape goat. There had been several mutinies and refusals to fight in several other "White" Infantry Regiments, and yet, there was no justice applied to them as it was applied in full force to the men of the 65th. Very complicated topic. In the end it was somewhat resolved after a severe tragic novel style event involving multiple investigations, and legal interventions. The 65th US Infantry Regiment of 1950 was a standing, and well established US Regular Army Regiment since after World War I. It was manned mostly by professional Soldiers from Puerto Rico. The vast majority of the Officers were US Mainland Caucassian Officers. The Tank Company was mostly from the US Virgin Islands. This is a great video. It will necessitate a much deeper presentation to address the multiple issues, and challenges that were dealt by the 65th at various times during their tour in Korea. It would require much more in depth information to come closer to how reality was back then. Good idea to consult all of Colonel Villa Hermosa's, US Army Retired various articles, and essays on the 65th Infantry Regiment. A number of men from all four sides of my family, and relatives began serving with the "Porto Rico" Regiment of Volunteers, the "Porto Rico" Regiment of Infantry, and later the 65th Infantry Regiment. Some of them were NCOs, others were Offficers of those eras. I am a US Army Retired Sr NCO. I am also a former US Marine Corps Infantry Officer, and Texas A&M graduate. Again, thanks for the great video. Always Forward! The Proud combat record of the 65th Infantry lives well in the present as part of the Puerto Rico Army National Guard, and its direct participation during the War on Terror.
