Rwy23 approach/landing in a forward slip. The slip is a technique used to lose altitude quickly over an obstacle and involved exposing the aircraft fuselage to the wind to increase drag. This is an effective maneuver, particularly with aircraft without flaps to land without excessive approach speed on short runways or from a high approach angle.
As you can see, runway 25 at 1B8 comes in over some pretty tall trees right at the end of the runway. Plus, this grass strip is only 2,000ft long so you don’t have a lot of time to float your touchdown. All of this makes it really fun to kick the plane sideways with some right rudder and left aileron.
We manage to get her down smoothly before the intersection with runway 23, so I’d call that a win!

The plane is a 1946 Aeronca Champion 7DC.
