Menzies Research Centre’s Nick Cater says violence against homosexuals is condoned in Gaza and wonders why any members of the LGBT+ community would support Palestine’s war against Israel.
Mr Cater’s remarks come as the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras shared an open letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese supporting a ceasefire in Gaza.
“You need to be a very brave activist to set up a gay liberation movement in Gaza under Hamas,” Mr Cater told Sky News host Caleb Bond.
“I don’t believe that there was a gay and lesbian Mardi Gras there, not as far as I know.
“In fact, to come out as gay in Gaza, and indeed the West Bank, although the situation isn’t quite as bad there - is basically a death sentence.”
