Ethiopians are way lighter than Nigerians, and that’s surprising in my opinion . I don’t know much . Im from America but it’s from what I’ve noticed . I’m honestly confused on why this is a thing in Africa . In America we don’t accuse each other if bleaching it’s not a big thing here , maybe because most of us are already considered “ light skin “ and we have different shades of light skin but it’s so weird that people would assume someone is bleaching

Some Ethiopians are light -skinned, not all. I went to Ethiopia on holiday in 2019 and was amazed at the diversity of the population as this is not the image promoted by Ethiopia externally. I am European born and raised with west African heritage and there were many Ethiopians who had the most beautiful skin tones that were much darker than my own including my driver who was from the Amhara region. Ethiopia has over 100 million people and more than 100 ethnic groups. There are people of all complexions across the full scale of blackness from the lightest to the darkest, as well variation in features and hair textures. It was an amazing mind broadening experience to be there and I do hope to return some day soon.

Hey Nne- I’ve experienced the things that you’ve described in your video. I’m Nigerian as well, born to a dark skinned Yoruba man and very light Yoruba woman. I inherited my mothers complexion and as I grew older,(I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this) I became lighter and lighter. It was natural, and my father accused me many times of bleaching. I have never seen a bottle of bleach my life. It’s not fair. Sometimes I feel like dark skinned people project their insecurities upon us by accusing us of bleaching. They try to demonise us to make *US* accept *THEIR* insecurities that they project. And if you say anything against dark skinned people, they accuse you of colourism! It’s like we can’t catch a break. I’m glad you did this video to educate people on the naturally light skinned. I’m glad you’re taking back your power and you defend yourself. Continue doing that, Nne. Hopefully one day we come to a place where we won’t be ostracised for the natural skin that God gave us. I think one thing that people miss understands is that Africans only come in a certain shade of brown, and if they are lighter they must be bleaching, when some don’t even use it, there are multiple shades of brown in Africa, you can find people of a lighter complexion that are Africans, born and raised. Some families where the siblings are of complete different tones some are darker and others are lighter, so for those who are saying that you did, it’s their own problem. And they can’t identify people who actually bleached.

Hi Ashlee, Your Mom has a skin condition called melasma which often happens in pregnancy. She can leave it be or see a dermatologist to treat it. The treatment doesn’t whiten or bleach the skin but gradually eliminates the extra melanin in the darker areas so her skin will return to one shade. If she ever gets pregnant again it will likely return and it may also get worse as she gets older. It’s really important that she wear sunscreen daily and she may want to look up information and videos by Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd who is a dermatologist who specializes in ethnic skincare and is black herself. Best wishes to you and your Mom. 💕🌸

Nneoma, you look very beautiful. Don't mind those people with the mean comments, a lot of them are just plain jealous of your beautiful glowing complexion.

Idk are you Nigerian descent.... You don't look too light for Nigerians. I am naturally your color when I have no sun exposure. I'm 80-90% black ancestry DNA says I'm 93% Black I'm of Hausa Fulani origin. I remember thinking before the test. I wondered why without Sun exposure I'm lighter I got almost 50% Nigerian and saw the women looked like my family. It's typical for black people of Nigerian descent to have kids that are dark medium and light in a family with the same two parents. My mom's parents literally did this. I've heard the same comments about bleaching looking sick looking grey by jealous black people too. What they're really saying is why am I dark skinned if you're black and not dark skinned that's what they're really trying to say basically that they're jealous

I’m “white” being so pale was an insecurity for me too. It’s still an insecurity in my 30’s the first few weeks of summer.

People are really mean . I never for once gave a thought to your light skinness ,lol.if that make sense! I'm igbo and I've seen igbo girls lighter than you . People will always be mean .

I'm glad I watched this video all the way through because everything your saying, I totally get it and yes some people can be really ignorant. If someone's body part is lighter or darker than the rest of them, people will assume anything. In the summer, I actually sun tanned by accident so my left arm is darker than my right arm. I've seen women get picked on for not having their face shade match their neck. It's ridiculous so I'm glad you addressed this, people should mind their own buisness. Thank you for sharing this❤
