That's how it sounded to me. He just sounded a bit ham-fisted, which I suppose can be natural for someone still processing such a life changing scenario. She was right to keep reminding him Jason isn't her name anymore, and it felt like this is a relationship with opportunities to improve. I don't think anyone can expect everyone they come out to to be immediately onboard 100%, especially the people that raised you. I think you need to listen for the positives, take them for what they are and be patient with the negatives. Kudos to the poster, anyway. This was an incredibly moving video and I wish her and her family all the best. ❤️

@@damanichildrey84 This is such an ignorant statement. You do realize that there are people who aren't familiar with the issue of being transgender and the changes it brings along, especially the older generations (her father is between his 50s and 60s)? No, apparently not. He's talking to his child, who he only knew as male for over twenty years, for the first time since she came out to him as transgender. This is his position: He's confused, overwhelmed, he doesn't know what's the right thing to do or say, probably doesn't even know what all of this means, he needs to process what he learned and get to know his child from a whole new perspective as well as get used to it. And so, he asks her questions about how she felt, about her current life, he tells her he'll always love her and says that he's happy as long as she's happy. Furthermore, Jae's storytime after her coming out confirms that her dad fully supports her, accepts her as his daughter and refers to her that way. The way you shame him for misgendering her since he didn't know any different without and ounce of consideration is sickening. You're no better than any transphobic, just as obstinate and hostile towards everything outside your bubble.

It sounds like this man is guided by life long religious principles. He is trying. You can hear that he really does love his child. No matter who she is. People are bashing her dad. it's honestly so damn hard to comprehend and wrap your head around the whole thing. I have a 17 year old transgender son. It took me a long time to understand. I'm going on 56 and it was so uncommon back in my days that when I first heard it it was almost bizzare. But for my son, I tried my hardest to do the best I can. I started calling him Nick instead of Danielle , but it took me 3 years. This is very difficult and especially for parents and grandparents. Now 8 years later he is my son and I no longer see him as my daughter. This is very hard to see your child change to someone else. Its very hard but I love him. His happiness is all that matters.

They'll say they support me, but claim that they just want me to be androgynous, pick at every bit of myself that makes me insecure in my masculinity, and go as far as to say "[deadname] is your name. That's who you are, and that's what I'll call you." and do way more things than that. Sure people can say they are supportive (and I'm sure the dad is supportive), but everyone has something to nit pick about things like this and act like it doesn't hurt the person telling them this. SkytaskyGaming You seem to be confused. Yes, both are biological, in that they are both possessed by biological entities, rather than say, a calculator. Biological sex, Sexual Orientation, sexual expression, and gender are all different things. All of them are rooted in biology. And some of them are influenced by our desires and choices. In that someone can be born with a brain and personality that does not match their genitals. And some are ambivalent, and can choose. Not all can. Imagine if you woke up with the wrong genitals and appearance tomorrow. how would you feel. That's how a lot of trans people fell, from childhood. Does that make things clearer?

I don't know about anyone else, but personally, I hear in the dad using her birth name, he's using it because it seems he feels he's losing this child and he's scared. Although I understand and have 100% respect for the person dealing with it, I think they have to understand that the parents are going through it as well, and particularly in this case, it sounds like he did not see it coming so he will need time to get used to it. Personally, I would call someone by any name and use whatever pronouns that they would like me to but I think when it comes to the parents, trans and non-binary people need to understand that its not just them going through it and especially for the parents, no parent wants to think that they haven't realised that their child has been going through something so big on their own. I don't necessarily agree with everything the dad said ie religion and the name and pronouns, but I do hear a father who loves his child, has genuine concern for her mental and emotional wellbeing and is doing the absolute best he can to support her and love her in a situation that he doesn't understand.

Jae, you put a lot of thought and heart into this. I can tell by your father's words that he loves you very much. Accepting that he has a daughter named Jae is going to take him time. I've learned that, as a transgender person, patience is a virtue and sometimes you have to take what you can get. Give him time to get acclimated, be prepared to answer his questions, and if he is going to disagree with you at all on this topic, don't invalidate his feelings but instead let him know where you're coming from (you did a great job of this during your conversation, and I'm so proud of you!!) It's a long and difficult road for someone in transition. Know that you are never alone, as there are always going to be people out here supporting you. As for the detractors, they will always be there, talking their smack. Let 'em. They don't matter. You know who you are as a beautiful young woman. Be happy, be strong, and be proud.

I don't believe in religion, I've never been to church, I don't really believe in any deities. but I loved that the dad said "maybe god wanted you to be like this, and that's who you are". I feel like a lot of religious parents tend to use religion and their god to make their child feel like shit, but jae's dad used it to try to be supportive. I think that's really sweet.

No Christian is perfect, as no one is truly perfect. But Christians ARE commanded in the Bible to accept and love everyone. God, our friends and enemies, people of all race genders and religion, and even ourselves as we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. Sometimes we mess up and may act like we don’t like someone, but a true Christ follower doesn’t have to like everyone but is commanded to love everyone. Please don’t think that all Christians are hateful because you saw one person who claimed to be Christian act hateful towards people of different views than them. I am Christian and I try my best to love everyone although sometimes I don’t agree with others morals or ideas of sins/okay acts.

Ok, as a mom of a transgender son, I don't understand why your dad is responding in this way..he keeps calling you Jason when you have already legally changed your name. then the whole God thing has to be brought into it. I feel for you.. I'm sorry hon..and your mom shut you out? Awful My son is Sam Collins, not sure if you know of him, but he's also a KZbinr and came out last year as trans to all his supporters. I hope your dad is more supportive of you and accepts you as Jae and not calling you Jason. It is hard, yes, for parents but they should be supportive. Were you close to your dad before, or from a distance? I hope you can work things out but the most important thing for you is that YOU are happy with who you are, and live your life, surround yourself with those who love you... I support you !

OMG that was so touching. This is how a parent should behave, unconditionally love your children. You are a brave woman, I sorta know what it is being bisexual, and this was one of the most stressfull moment in my life to come out to family and friends, so I know it requires courage. It's great that you have your dad's support, it makes a huge difference to have a parent's support. Don't worry about him calling you son, or your old name, or using the wrong pronouns, he has many years of memories with you as his son, so it's gonna take some time for him to adapt, but he definitely has the right attitude towards you. I know it must've hurt hearing him say "to me you'll always be Jason", but what he meant was the person, not the name or gender. He truly cares about you, and he didn't say that to hurt you. This is new to him, and he needs time. I never had a relationship with my mother, we were never friends. Until I came out to her at 43 years old. Before we spole once a year, maybe 30 minutes of agonising talk, but now we speak every week and I enjoy our talk. I even look forward to it, I even surprises myself with thinking of calling her when I have news. Being myself was the key to us having a relationship. I'm not saying it will be the same with you and your dad, but do not miss out the chance of connecting with him. Mine died many years ago, and I will always regret not having had one with him. Good luck dear :-)

What's the point of being trans if you never cure the dysphoria, what's the point if you're never going to advance in your transition, what's the point if you're not getting testosterone and bottom surgery for your SEX LIFE, hence causing more dysphoria since you're having sex with genitalia that doesn't fit you in the first place

Jackson Sarber Not all Transgender have Dysphoria you dipshit. not all Transgender want Top/Bottom Surgery. not all was *T/E* to transition. some are comfortable with their body, just switch clothes and done. don't speak like you know all this shit cause obviously you don't speak for others experience. Your culture, life and friends are black. But, you have a skin disorder that makes your skin white. Are you black? If there was a treatment that could fix your skin, so you look the way you think you should, would you take it? Same sort of idea. She's a woman. You need to realize that they hurt just as much as you. For them... they lost their son or daughter. Think about that next time. Maybe you are hurt, but they are hurt too. All that matters is that they still love you. Parents never accept 100% the choices their kids make. That's just parents being parents.

Tattooed Dad you don't understand
@ethaniovino99087 жыл бұрын
Tattooed Dad Exactly! And as hard as it is for us trans people to come out, be accepted, and feel comfortable in our own skin, the parents struggle with it too. My bio dad struggled with it before accepting me and calling me "Ethan" instead of my legal name. (Though my dad also struggles with split decisions and mental illness, so it didnt last too long because of that). The parents usually feel as though they've lost a child, even though that may not be the case, and it takes time for them to come to terms with that and "celebrate a new child," from their point of view. However, everyones parents are different. Some will never come to terms with it, some take longer than others, and others will accept it immediately. This woman in this video has an accepting father; he's not disowning her or abusinv her. He even wanted to talk with her about it. But you can see he's going to struggle with it at first, but acceptance is the first step to coping with it. I wish my dad reacted the way her dad did when I came out as FTM. And hopefully, he'll come to terms with her, but it takes time and nobody should try to shame him for that. She's a beautiful woman with a beautiful girlfriend and i know her and her father will try to get through this together.
@ethaniovino99087 жыл бұрын
lydia willyhands I believe he does as a matter of fact. Even a certified gender therapist will tell you that. Her father is struggling just as she is, but he accepts her. It will take time for him to come to terms with this. Sincerely, an FTM person who has been abused, kicked out, and not truly accepted by his biological father, and has gone to a variety of therapy, including but not limited to conversion (unsuccessful & very detrimental) and gender (successful & very beneficial) therapy.
@MiaRosenbloom7 жыл бұрын
Tattooed Dad, do you have an aversion to your biological sex, gender role as a man, and birth name (gender dysphoria)? If not, then you have no idea what it's like to be trans, and therefore you have no right to judge what you don't understand.
@tydusrain44767 жыл бұрын
People who aren't trans or nonbinary don't quite understand how difficult it can be when someone says "you'll always be *birth name* to me." Even if the person isn't meaning to, its like theyre claiming to accept you but refuse to acknowledge your identity. A lot of the time, its done without knowing, it seems a lot like you're saying "you'll always be my kid" or "you'll always be my best friend", but to a trans person, it doesn't have the same meaning. Obviously, Jae knows that her dad loves her, but its hard when he constantly refuses to call her by her name. It has nothing to do with how much he says that he loves her, it's the fact that he's not respecting her name.
@bunny31137 жыл бұрын
