Just bought a couple of these titles this week as an early bday present! After 20 years finding the x2 books again that I remember reading at school, must have been good and look forward to reading again to perhaps have a different perspective (18years old to 45).

I've been a big fan of Orwell for as long as I can remember - and I often re-read his essays. Homage to Catalonia is my favourite of his books. Recently I read Aspidistra for the first time. The other two novels of his I have yet to read are Burmese Days and Coming Up for Air. Thanks for wetting my appetite for the latter.

'Coming...' is outstanding. 'Burmese Days' is his first and weakest, I feel, but I'm planning a re-read as it's the only book of Orwell's I haven't re-read- I've read all the others multiple times.

I'd argue that Keep the Asphiradista Flying could be included here to make a quartet of books about disillusionment. First in the young, then in the middle aged, then on a local community level and finally on the national/International level.

That's an extremely good thematic argument - love 'Aspidistra' too, myself - even though it doesn't fit in with Orwell's original conception of the 'Last Man In Europe' culminating family saga plan. But yep, good call!

nineteen eighty four is probably my all time favorite novel , never heard of coming up for air. If its half as good as '84 I'll love it. thanks for the info/recommendation

For some reason, hardly anyone seems to reaad 'Coming Up..' but as the video reveals, it is vital for understanding what Orwell wanted to do with his work. Let me know how you get on with it.

I really enjoyed this video and the insight and background on the author and these books… When I was in Elementary and High School I read Animal Farm and 1984 on more than one occasion as required reading but never heard of Coming up for Air dare I say I don’t remember it ever being mentioned… I have found that my local library doesn’t carry it but it is in the ILLS system here…so I will be able to get it and read them in order so I can appreciate the entire cinematic trilogy as it was meant to be read…and I think that’s a brilliant idea you had for someone to put the 3 stories into an omnibus edition… Thank You for this video it was very informative and very interesting for those who enjoy Orwell himself and or just classic literature in general…Wonderful video keep up the good works…😊👍🏻

The influence of Wells' Edwardian period upon 'Coming Up For Air' is quite something. And the glimpses of the two books that follow 'Coming' in its text are quite something when you read the three in a row.
