So, at 16:30, I do have some faint idea about what Crim was trying to accomplish, but it would not have been possible due to some characteristics about LED which make it weird, to say the least. In the new text, it specifically says that "Sacrifice Lion’s Eye Diamond, Discard your hand: Add three mana of any one color to your mana pool. Activate this ability only any time you could cast an instant." The instant part is very important, since you cannot play LED, then announce the casting of a spell, then activate LED as you are about to pay for the spell's mana cost, as that would be too similar to a Black Lotus. To sum it up, while LED's effect is a mana ability (that cannot be shut off by Pithing Needle-like effects and does not use the stack), it has timing restrictions. Great game, btw, always good to see a nice cEDH game!

When there was discussions about "What if you infinitely cascade into Thassa's Oracle before you want it?", around 45:00, cascade is a may. You may cast the card, if you don't you randomly put the revealed cards on the bottom.
@VRanger1004 жыл бұрын
41:30 "Can't you just win with Thassa's Oracle?" - Technically yes. Seth had the 6 mana (5 Rainbow and 1 Green) to Demonic Tutor (1B) for Thassa's Oracle (UU). -- Cast Thassa's Oracle (UU), then with the ETB on the stack cast Demonic Consultation (B) and name something not in his deck (Panharmonicon). --- No interaction from the other players means Seth wins. Granted Seth got there in a convoluted way to show off the Food Chain combo, but he got very lucky to have exiled the Misthollow Griffin and the Eternal Scourge.
@raymondgreen93794 жыл бұрын
Game two I could be missing something but I think: Tomer you gilded drake the recruiter and Richard can't win on his turn bc he can't put fanatic/ sling gang on top after making infinite goblins( he can steal it back but then is out of snoops and can't copy it) Seth you mystical for consultation, then on your turn you demonic for oracle tapping elf and land then consult for a card not in your deck tapping confluence, then cast oracle exiling tomers fetch and tapping bop( I understand wanting to show the combo bit your line has a 6% chance of missing and both lose to Foe)
@aidennoir5974 жыл бұрын
I had the same thought. Recruiter is key to the combo winning that turn, so taking it out is better than hoping Crim maybe draws into a counterspell. You should also never rely on anyone else in cEDH, the format is pretty hostile to politics.

I have a ~$100 Kess deck based on CEDH combos that I find really fun to play. My mana comes into play tapped, no Mana Crypt or Lion's Eye Diamond, no Demonic or Vamp tutor, no Force of Wills, but it's still my best deck by far to where I cut some of the interaction for fun cards to give my friends a chance. I make sure to give them approximations of when I might be able to win at all times and I play the deck sparingly enough that I think it creates interesting play patterns in forcing them to stop me instead of trying to assemble their own value engines as soon as possible.
@DropkickGoose4 жыл бұрын
This is is probably contraversial here, but I love cEDH or just powered up EDH just cause of how fast it is (meaning more games) and the amount of on-stack interaction or trying to avoid it. Yeah the games end kind of the same way most of the time, but how you get there is fascinating and fun.

One of the advantages of 3/4 of most decks sharing cards is that it's not very expensive to buy into a different commander or version of a deck - right now I've got cards for Gitrog, Tasigur (reanimator, golden control and ad naus), Curiosity Control, Farm, Consultation Kess. For anyone looking to start I'd definitely suggest proxies and then just slowly trading and buying singles - I personally don't proxy cards I don't expect to ever buy (so no Timetwisters or Tabernacles) but over the last 3-4 years I've acquired most of the more affordable staples and have a decent manabase.

33:57 cyclonic rift the sylvan library and buy two turns right?
@GamerdevilPro4 жыл бұрын
That doesn't do anything, the combo is already set up, he only needs to draw the snoop and the snoop is on top already. The sylvan library is indeed a problem there since it allows Richard to indefinitely keep Kiki-Jiki on top without actually drawing it, otherwise the proper counterplay would be to just bounce the snoop with the Torch Courier on the stack so that Richard just draws Kiki-Jiki and has it stuck in hand for the foreseeable future. The Brainstorm opened up the additional possibility of just trading Gilded Drake and Recruiter so Richard doesn't actually have a way to kill them since all the Snoop tokens would be tapped.

A note to Richard about conceding to stifle triggers, this is considered a rude and unsporting move in cedh tables
@Niuttuc4 жыл бұрын
In this case, it was conceding to stifle a trigger that shouldn't exist to correct MTGO bugging and allow Tomer to attack normally without risking to exploit a bug, which would also be rude. In normal circumstances, it's rude at most tables, not only cEDH ones.
@simondiamond96284 жыл бұрын
At some tables, when people are just playing for fun, scooping at instant speed can be considered rude. But that is environment/meta dependent. As for "tournament play", whether at an LGS or at a CommandFest, when prizing is on the line, that changes to a good degree. If it's legal, then it's whatever, unless the LGS has a specific policy against it. Generally, only salty people get mad at instant speed scooping, especially if it stops them from winning. And that kind of frame of mind keeps people from looking at a given situation objectively. But it is what it is.

@@arachnon4785 it can, and it was run in a lot of decks for a while, but as the format has evolved, it's just better to use your own resources and stack/board control rather than hand disruption on average. There are those decks that use extract effects(such as first sliver here) and those can be used to take apart combos, but even those need to have other utility to be run
@simondiamond96284 жыл бұрын
The usage of targeted discard spells is dependent on the archetype you're playing. In Sidisi ANF (Ad Nauseam Fishbowl), that deck makes use of targeted discard to probe hands prior to playing Ad Nauseam and storming off. Gitrog Dredge makes use of Cabal Therapy and Thoughtseize. Cheaper, powered down versions can use cards like Inquisition of Kozilek, Duress, and others, for a similiar effect. Older lists of Nath Handstax (Nath of the Gilt-Leaf) uses targeted hand hate as well. Targeted handhate is more so used like a "preemptive counterspell" of sorts, if that makes sense.
