Considering the cards we saw him play and discard, he had a hand of thing like cost reducers, elvish piper/quicksilver amulet, copy effects, ect. If he managed to get that untapped land he wanted, he could've gotten Miirym out, cheated in another Dragon, and started off his gameplan right. But he didn't win the gamble, and tossed away his backup plan (likely because the spell side was not useful without an established board). Yeah, it's a big misplay. The intent of Rhystic Study is to slow the game down, but not lock someone out completely. You should only not pay if you are either sure you can win the game that turn (still risky because they might draw into Pact of Negation etc.) or you need to protect yourself from a game ending play.

To Josh NOT paying for RS at all and then him roasting Jimmy for giving Lexi an extra turn when he gave her like 20 cards to RS... LOL Priceless. The engine going off for Josh only to be blocked by him giving Lexi the solution by not paying RS.. And the absolute shiny perfect cherry on top to see Lexi then dominate and sequence her final *turns* perfectly at the end. The triple slay.. The spice and synergy. Perfection. GG

I know that the guests get to make their own decks and of course want to make powerful decks that synergize well and pop off but I have to admit that constantly seeing rhystic study and smothering tythe is getting really old. Feels like every episode wether its extra turns or game knights whoever plays rhystic study always takes over the table even if they don't win in the end. Maybe as a change of flavor and to show that not every commander game has to have rhystic study you guys could consider having a soft house ban on these oppressive cards (Dockside / Smothering tythe / Rhystic Study). Personally I would find it way more interesting to see other cards pop off and shine, the only other solution would be to take your own advice and just instantly remove them... but lets be real thats never gonna happen. As always great episode and thanks for always taking Game Knights to the next level!!

They play to huge parts staple tribal and then cards that go on theme with the commander that cant even shine cause the game is too fast. The Baldursgate set has so much fun cards and we did see mostly nothing of that. Also i thought they had extra turns for matches like this one. 49:17 Jimmy absolutely made the right play there. Giving Lexi an extra turn has little chance to hurt him, given Josh and Jonathan had much better board states and would almost certainly be her primary focus. On the other hand, if he chose Money then Lexi could have Expropriated one of his lands and essentially locked him out of the game. Choosing Time gave him an opportunity to, well, bide his time. Plenty of players have come back from weaker positions on Game Knights and gotten the win in the end, like Graham from LRR playing Bear Force One. Josh also brought the situation upon himself by not paying for the Rhystic Studies triggers when he tried to 'go off' with his combo and ended up with a whole lot of mana doing a whole lot of nothing. I understand that it's easy to get frustrated in a game like this, but blaming Jimmy was uncalled for.

I disagree. Mostly because you are going to give a player with something like 30 cards in hand 3 turns in a row. Especially when you have almost no mana and the cards in your hands were those bounced back by cyclonic rift.

@@BertockLeg But giving up a land would have put him even further behind up against 3 much better armed players, even if they don't target you at that point you are so far behind you are going to just end up as collateral or an easy way to generate low risk combat triggers.
