One of the worst examples of the low budgets were the fact that Earth and alien spaceships had nearly the same design. But that was also true with "Flash Gordon," back in 1936, with a larger budget for its time.

While this series had a lot of good stuff in it for kids, scientific stuff, one thing they didn't seem to bother much about was various planetary atmospheres. Whether landing on Mercury or the moon, the landscape was the same, and the air was breathable. Naturally they had budgetary constraints, but the Commando could have at least addressed it and 'flicked a switch' on his belt or something.
