The sets and costumes are terrific. I like the big radio that is hidden behind some filing cabinets on wheels. The actors had to handle a lot of props. The headdress of the leader with it's fish fin look is a wonder. The leader's assistant in her cocktail dress is quite lovely. I think this episode is the first we've seen of Lyle Talbot. His standing in the actor hierarchy is that of a supporting actor rather than a character actor. One of the greats. It's always a joy to see William Fawcett who plays the apple vendor, Chris. This man was always old even when he was young. Best line: There won't be enough of the world left to conquer, but orders are orders.

At 1:30 into the show the pilot asked for the pressure reading. It was 890 over 66. What a coincidence, that was my blood pressure reading this morning as well.

This episode introduces Richard Crane, for some reason the other actor left. Crane played the lead in Rocky Jones - Space Ranger at about the same time. It's amazing when Commando catches the bomb in mid-air. Notice the special miniature they had to make of the rocketman carrying the device. This story contains footage of the fantastic 'destruction of New York' miniature made for the final episode of the "King of the Rocketmen" serial. We also see here, for the first time, that the Ruler has a glamorous assistant.

+2arttoyguys Although the series wasn't released until 1955, it began filming in 1953, at which time William Schallert was cast as Ted Richards, but the series was put on hold while the producers wrangled over whether it should be released as a movie serial or TV series. Schallert took supporting roles in movies (Sword of Venus, The Girls of Pleasure Island, Port Sinister, Riot in Cell Block 11, Captain Kidd & The Slave Girl, The High & The Mighty, Gog and Them!) and never looked back. Filming resumed with Richard Crane as Dick Preston, which role might have helped him land the part of Rocky Jones, Space Ranger with Roland Reed Productions in Feb 1954.

Are those news announcements near the beginning of the story voiced by Bart LaRue? He had the best 'announcer voice' I've ever heard.

The flood scene was recycled from the last episode of King of the Rocket Men.

It is very interesting to see these episodes at 4 years old then 63 years later.... Weather modification( HAARP), and microwave heat/death ray ALA Tesla, (even anti UFO disinformation in the 1st episode, at 3:20 >> "those imaginary flying saucers" which was aired 3 years after a fleet of real flying saucers buzzed the Capitol/ Washington DC) >en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1952_Washington,_D.C._UFO_incident
