british forces use as little light as possible but will use a little red light from time to time except when map reading as the contour lines on the maps are an orange brown colour so red light would hide them. so either the thumb method shown or a pinhole in some black tape over the torch

UKSF has a number of units, such as Special Boat Service (SBS) and Special Air Service (SAS). The SBS comprises mostly those from Royal Marines and SAS is mostly from Parachute Regiment, although any serving military personnel can apply to either.

You might enjoy the contrast of looking at the other side of the Royal Marines from the Commandos - the Royal Marines Band Service. The selection is also extremely rigorous in a completely different way, and they also attend Lympstone for their military training, but for the standard infantry training of 13 weeks rather than the Commando course. Their traditional military role was as stretcher bearers and they now deploy in medical support and logistics; one band deployed to the Falklands War and you'll spot an Afghanistan campaign medal here and there on band members. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKSynIqLfbaUedUsi=TLsb8LbSaWje5jSP kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXbVZ3eka9iiZpIsi=uzUy5kRSAER7wBny kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYuxe3mol5V8fdEsi=K6I1cRYzYArX1Obh

@@JustAnotherArmyVet I have no problem eating meat and I would not mind hunting or killing in a trap these animals to eat them in an emergency. I also would not think twice shooting an enemy, because this would have been my obligation as an officer, trained for this, for the protection of my country and my men. I had such a close call during my service time, during a base security violation by a trespasser who jumped the fence back out, when the guards sounded the alarm, At the time, we were ordered by the security officer to load our weapons and shoot him on site, if he tried to get back in the base again. I was deputy security officer at the time and fully determined to carry out this order. As it turned out the guy was an overzealous Army Security civilian employee, who wanted to test the security of our base by jumping over the fence during the night. The whole thing went up in the chain of command and the idiot was eventually transferred away from Army Security. However making these animals feel safe and then rip their heads off or braking their necks, entails a level of treachery that I did not appreciate, especially since this was only just for training, with more caged animals looking while waiting for their turn.
