England also had homeground advantage in their Euros. Australia beat Great Britain at the Olympic QF that was under pressure too!

Watched the first half. Found the Matilda’s play a bit disjointed but threatened to be dangerous regularly. Superb counteracting goal. It is a little worrying how easily teams seem to play through us but you would back us against any team. Good luck in the tournament, Australia is already proud of you!

Marvel stadium capacity is 53k, stated 50k as sold out. Looking at the crowd from the second tiers you can see chunks of empty seats. Anyone who attends sports on a regular basis can do a cursory summation of numbers and see the numbers don’t compute

All of them are dedicated or configurable rectangular football/rugby venues: Stadium Australia (Capacity: 83,500), Sydney Football Stadium (Capacity: 42,512), Suncorp Stadium (Capacity: 52,263), Melbourne Rectangular Stadium (Capacity: 30,052), Perth Rectangular Stadium (Capacity: 22,225), Hindmarsh Stadium (Capacity: 13,327). But if you think they're "no good to watch real football" (whatever that means) just don't go.... You wouldn't be able to get a ticket to many key games anyway because they're now sold out. lol

Whoever scheduled this game less than a week prior to the teams 1st world cup game needs their head read! This game should of been @ least 2-3 weeks prior. Gives very little time for players to recuperate physically & work on weaknesses.

the attendance for the WC Final in 1998 which was hosted in France was literally 75 000. 89 000 for the 2022 World Cup in which France played and 78 000 when France won the World Cup final in 2018. 57 000 people attended the 2019 women's world cup and guess where that was hosted? In France. Just because you get 50,000 people coming to one game doesn't make you a football country. The 50,000 were there because it was France playing had it been another country like china or Jamaica the attendance wouldn't have been the same.

I went to the match after the end we went up to the stands to get a photo with Sam Kerr. I understand she has so many people to take photos and autographs but we handed her the phone and she started signing my friends jumper instead when we said oh no could we please have a photo she said “you moved” and walked away that happened with a few people too

Marvel is a sporting multiplex stadium, not only does it have a roof (open/shut) it has the capacity to move the bottom tier seats to be moved closer to the pitch to create a rectangle field! I still believe that playing @ MCG crowd would of reached 90-100 thousand ppl. I guess the AFL wouldnt allow it! AFL has an Inferiority complex.

These are the highlights, so they fail to show how wasteful Australia was upfront. It was kinda ironic that the goal we got was with a left foot shot when we failed multiple times to shoot when on our left foot. Not a solid performance, but got the job done. I think our group stage is going to be harder than we think.

Typical Aussies, always dominated physically so you start crying for fouls and cards that don't exist. And that play style you're complaining about which isn't really a play style. It's just how any good European team play but you wouldn't understand that cause Australia is shit at football and don't know how to play when the game gets a bit physical. Also that "Play Style" Currently has France rated 5 in the world while Australia is 10th and lets not get started on the Men's. France dominated the match but just weren't clinical enough. Agreed. A lot of the one touch football looked scratchy & the Matilda's still gave a lot of possession away. I'm not a fan of them playing out from the back but it did lead to the goal, but I wonder if during the WC it will bring us more grief than joy.

@@Marvel__fan900 Really, let's put that in perspective then shall we. The supposedly 5th best womens soccer team in the world, the Matildas, got trounced 7-0 by 15 year old schoolboys in a game. The reality is that you can see a higher skill level game at your local footy field played by kids on a Saturday morning. It's nice that they are having fun but I personally prefer to see professionals playing the game at the highest possible level.
