This is the best review of this bike I have seen on KZbin.

I bought the essentIal build package, which isnt as flash as the race, but has still been absolutely awesome! Climbs fine, awesome in the park or any trail and...it jumps so well. Its my first fs 29, not sure if the wheel size helps with stability in the air, but I am logging significant air time on this bike. On point review!

Sold my ibis ripmo af for the Meta TR race build (the one being tested) and you guys hit the nail on the head with the review. I can only afford one bike and went back and forth between the TR or AM and I feel like the TR has definitely been a quiver killer bike.

Do you see or feel any difference between the ripmo af and comm tr? Looking at both bikes.
@savageferria5052 жыл бұрын
The TR is just more composed and stable through chunk and in the bike park at speed. If you don’t have the terrain I would definitely consider something lighter though this thing is a pig lol

Exactly! Very well said. I love the Oregon mountain's climb and downhill on my 2020 Commencal Meta TR. And I am ready to buy a 2nd one and let my son-in-law ride it in 🇹🇭 Thailand 10 months of the year & we'll be there 2 months yearly - December-January!

Thanks for the review guys. I’m a Front Range rider and have been out to CB once. Currently on a 2017 Trance, aluminum, 27.5. Have been seriously considering the Meta TR as well as either the Ripmo or Ripley AF. A lot of reviews praise Ibis for climbing prowess, but I feel like the Meta TR build and geo may be perfect for what we ride in this region. Unfortunately, with the current industry shortages, it’s hard to find one to demo right now. But as I dream, would love your thoughts on the Meta vs the Ibis for Colorado’s long grinds followed by chunky descents.
@savageferria5053 жыл бұрын
I sold my ripmo af for the meta tr race build (the one being tested) and I will say the meta feels way more stable and comfortable at high speeds and through the chunk. Handles the bike park really well, also fun to crank out a quick 11 mile xcish rides too. If you’re an aggressive rider and want something more for the bike park and rowdy trails get the TR.
@jonwatters57273 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the beta. Definitely interested in demoing the TR as soon as a I can get my hands on one.
@jonwatters57272 жыл бұрын
How does the Meta compare to your old AF on the climbs? My local trails are a mix of long sustained grinds and short technical bursts. The Meta is heavier, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing for stability at speed and over chunk, as well as holding a line on tech climbs. But it all depends on how it pedals.
@savageferria5052 жыл бұрын
The Ripmo AF is a better climber, the meta TR is comfortable and will get you to the top but there is no hiding the fact that it is a pig. As you mentioned the weight does help it hold its line through rough stuff. My climbs are usually 3 mile with about 1,000 ft gain in elevation not very technical followed by a rowdy decent. 10 mile rides with about 850 ft in elevation are also fun on the meta definitely not super poppy and light but you can definitely get it off the ground on little side hits.

Check out Sedona mtb fest, not too far of a drive and you can demo one ! I plan on riding the new Bronson and stumpy evo which are also bikes in this trail/enduro category!

FWIW Commencal confirmed VIA email that the Flip Chip from the new Meta SX will be backwards compatible with the TR. So more BB drop will be available on the TR with the chip. The currently BB drop is my only complaint with my TR build (well besides the weight). Unfortunately the Chips will not hit their web site as an a la cart part until Q3 2022! And even that is debatable but it gives me some hope for tiny upgrade and customization nexties..

Is this an "all mountain bike" or is it too heavy weighted towards enduro? I understand that this does great on the downhill, but how does this bike do on longer cross country rides?

@BLISTER What are your thoughts on the new Commencal Meta TR Race vs Yeti SB130 CLR? I saw your comparison on the Switchback and wanted hear your thoughts on the Yeti.
@djwoodco2 жыл бұрын
We tested the SB130 (non-lunch ride) in a Large, so this comparison isn't exactly apples-to-apples. But, this comparison is indeed similar to the Switchblade; the SB130 is a quicker, more nimble, more efficient bike. The Meta TR Race's suspension feels notably more planted on the way down, while the SB130 is a bit more lively and sporty. Geo and handling feel pretty similar (apart from the size difference), though.

Saw a store-brand bike at a large retail shop. Shimano Alivio, Suntour Zeron fork, Alex 30mm 29er rims with thru-axle, Suntour Lor8 shock, Hutchinson 2.4 tires. A large frame, which is rare since most retail stores only carry small & medium. 140mm front & rear. Price...$870.00. About thirty-six pounds in weight. If retail stores can manage this, bike brands are in real...trouble.
