For me , even I was not born in that era, not saying being as a Indian but the number one innings of all time should be Kapil Dev 175 against Zimbabwe in 1983 world cup. +strattus99 Ponting is great but this is not the greatest ODI innings ever. Infact its not event the greatest WC innings I've seen. Aravinda de silva's 107* was the best. It was against a world class side (with Warne, McGrath and Flemming) and in a pressure situation (Sri Lanka were 2 wickets down and in big trouble). Also SL had never won a wc and were not a world class side. De Silva's pressure innings of 107* and 66 in the semi's were better than this. I would also take Gilly's and Steve Waugh's century against SA over this. As far as world cups go. Indian bolwing was very weak on this particular day.

This was the match when I was in class 5 and this match was related to the famous rumour which was spring bat rumour it went because pointing was playing the hard knock off 140 at the era of 2000 was just passed and 359 was one of the highest score in world cup I watch this match and I was in shock when India lose every one was blaming Ricky pointing that he is having spring in his bat because he was hitting each and every ball to the six runs which was awful and pathetic to watch but I respect Ricky pointing from the bottom of my heart because he was passionate for winning match and he was the player who can do anything else for winning the match hats off to his spirit he created the environment of winning matches at regular pace when he was captain no one beats Australia every team was minnows when they face them

This was also the reason Ganguly chose to Bowl first and he had a belief that Team India will chase down any target which Australia will set as they chased a year ago in NatWest final. The main culprit of this match was Zaheer, people might think I am going harsh on him, but I have live witness that horrible first over, who bowls this much extras in the first over of world cup finals. I guess it was 13/15 runs first over, where Aussie hardly broke the sweat. That set up the innings for them very nicely. 😊 India and Australia both finalists played 11 matches. Australia won all 11 India won 9 out of 11 and lost 2 against the Australia. At that moment in time, Australia were unbreakable and immovable force. Thanks to time they are now bit soft or may be I can say other teams like India and England have become tough.

In World Cup 2003, he was genuinely struggling against Lee in the league match (And he struggled against Sohaibh akhtar in one-day after 1999 test series, when not so recognised good batsman of fast bowling like Ajau Jadeja didn't have issues with Sohaibh's pace). He was Warne's bunny as well. The only place where he was great was in England in swinging conditions.

Sachin is a better batsman over Ponting, but overall Ponting is better in terms of leadership, fielding, his ability in the field to take catches, direct throws, speed was on another level. Sachin was a miserable captain, couldn't perform well with the bat whilrle leading. So this all makes Ponting better and more successful than Sachin.
