The Trump administration rescinded a set of Obama-era policies that promoted using race to achieve diversity in schools, teeing up new battle lines over admissions standards.

Thomas Ray What a weak statement. Correcting racism by implementing racism is a formula for disaster. I am completely for requiring every student gets the same education k to 12 and same budget. Then base admittance on grades not on IQ . No matter your genetics, if you work harder you will succeed. To gain admittance because your grand father was a slave is a weak argument. I believe in black people, and I personally don’t think they need extra help.... just equal opportunity.

@@jacoblee5796 1) *Stop and frisk-* which criminalizes black men for simply walking on a city street, which effectively pushes black people out of neighborhoods which helps to speed up gentrification efforts. 2) *Zero Tolerance policies in the K-12 public school system-* targets black boys into the infamous *_school-to-prison-pipeline_* by disproportionately suspending and expending them for infractions that white boys would get a slap on the wrist for. By criminalizing black boys it prevents them from having a stable education and thereby neutralizes their ablity to compete on an economic playing field as adults. 3) *Mulford Act-* a NRA-sponsored state law signed by Ronald Reagan as California governor as a response to black men forming armed militia organizations to protect themselves from racist cops and white militia groups. Essentially sets up the blueprint to disarm legal black gun holders across the USA

@@willia3r First off stop and frisk did target people of color based off profiling. Meaning there was a reason they where targeting black men. White women benefit from Affirmative Action more than any other demographic in America... But this is a discussion about universities... that being said, merit-based programs are the norm, no minority goes to Harvard just because they’re “Black” and submitted an application, they have proved their proficiency and their academic excellence as being substantial. THAT being said, many of the “power” positions are held by White people who may be tempted to give preference to other “team-mates”... affirmative action ensures that there is some type of check/balance to the decision process. Often times, as we ALL know... it’s not what you know but who you know... so merit has ALWAYS been secondary to preference and favoritism. They are attempting to use their “color-blindness” as a deflection tactic for their covert racism

I graduated over 40 years ago with a BA degree, from a school, that had a diverse student body. I consider that diversity , as a very valuable tool, in my learning there. The discussions were enriched by those who lived in different environments. I met a brazilian girl who turned me on to some artists< I still love today. And I had a Jewish roommate as a freshman, who gives me credit for opening his perspective, in his career. Today's education has too much focus on test numbers, and not enough on things that cannot be measured. You cannot measure a gift, that changes your life. The diversity, in my college education did that, for me.

@@godofcod2dayWait stop, your nuts. I agree if a 4.0 GPA student is denied admission to colleges to give a minority student with a 2.5 GPA an opportunity it is racism. However that isn't what affirmative action is. Affirmative action is if you have ten 4.0 gpa students and only five positions in a school. Nine of the ten students that applied are not minority or lower class economics wise. Then it's not racist but exercising affirmative action to give one of the five sears to a minority. Why do you guys always twist things? It's like the scare tactics of the student loan forgiveness. We can't pay off doctors or lawyers student loans. He should have countered by asking: Where do the blacks students admintted by AA rank in their class?, How many graduate in their chosen field as opposed to having changed to a less competitive major to keep up? How many have graduated on time? Drawing the conversation to it being due to the quality of high school education. I can read her mind... Oh god, why didn't i take that job at fox? Anyhow, black communities don't need affirmative action. They need the power and authority to address the issues of their communities.

Tony Johnson Don’t talk about politics if you can’t form a single coherent sentence. I understand you’re crying because, like majority of Trumptards, you can’t produce logical arguments based on facts or evidence. It’s not my fault you live in a trailerpark and work at McDonalds.

Often-cited examples of race-blind meritocracy are New York City’s elite public schools, such as Stuyvesant High School, for which admission is based solely on a standardized test. Stuyvesant is about 74 percent Asian, 18 percent white, 3 percent Hispanic, 1 percent black, with 4 percent multiracial or other. In California, where race-based affirmative action was eliminated in 1996, admission at the University of California at Berkeley is 42 percent Asian. That is what the administration is fighting - too many Asians. Since it’s evident that Affirmative Action has benefited WHITE WOMEN the most, not necessarily people of color. While the term “model minority” substantiates a myth about how whites value Asians, Asians are only “model minorities” when they are small in number with minimal influence on a community. When Asians “set the norms of academic achievement by which whites are evaluated [and] ultimately usurp those previously in place,” once heralded Asian achievements are critiqued with suspicion.

If you are bothered that people of a certain race dominate the academic world rather than the most competent people dominate it, that makes you a racist.

@@darkwolf4434 You're not a black man so there is no way for you to even fathom what Dyson is talking about. @darkwolf44344 жыл бұрын
@@Junkman2008 That's the difference, in Sweden we don't treat people based on their skin color, which Dyson argues against in this debate. And do you mean that black people are all the same? That's racist. Also Dyson is following a racist pattern due to his obsession with skin colour.

You are bugging dr dyson is a clown, using big words to try and appear smart, fact is Trump wants merit based system saying that blacks are just as smart as any other group and they dont need assistance from the gov to get into college while Dyson is saying the opposite, that without looking at race and using only merit based entry to college then blacks will be left out. Thats pretty racist. I dont get why democrats hate merit based systems in America. They are against it with college and they are against merit based system for immigration and who we allow to enter America. They say if we have a merit based immigration system then those black and brown people will be left out in the cold and that only those from predominatly white nations or european nations will be only ones who will qualify to get in. Again thats racist. Yet they call Trump racist and republicans racist becauae we believe that a merit based system is only truly fair way to judge immigration entry and college admissions and that anyone can make it in based on that system. they give credit to minorities that the dems dont. The dems say that using only merit means blacks wont get in another way of saying that minorities arent intelligent enough to make it without government intervention
