Hey, in your opinion what is the quickest route to becoming a relationship manager? 1.) Getting a job as an assistant relationship manager and then becoming an RM 2.) Getting on a 2 year commercial banking graduate scheme, then securing an RM role at the end of the scheme Sorry for the tough question lol

What does it take to be a successful commercial banker? 14:00 RM to internal and external stakeholders. understanding clients business. expert in structuring credit agreements (best covenant), credit skills, problem solving skills. Name 3 important credit ratios and why? 15:10 this is a common question and we have 4 core categories: liquidity ratios: turning assets to cash leverage ratios: reliance on debt financing profitability ratios: ability to generate profits efficiency ratios: how company manages its assets what type of credit ratios 15:50 so maybe provide one in each category. liquidity: current ratio, quick ratio. leverage: debt to equity, interest coverage ratio, debt to EBITDA (define the loan size, this is market confidence indicator) profit: gross profit margin, ROA, ROE. efficiency: projecting the NWC and DCF, such as DSO, DIH, inventory turns, DPO 20:25 How are 3 financial statement linked? following the net income account. start with income statement, move to cash flow statement, then to balance sheet. net income is in the retained earnings in the balance sheet.

the video is very well detailed and it explains how to answer most of the question. I was lucky to have a job interview with commercial banking despite not have similar background and experience. Can you tell more about the behavioural questions? I mean I have seen lots of people not having any job experience but they still manage to get into CB or IB. For fresh graduates how do we make ourselves outstanding while not having job experience.
@financekid31637 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words, I am glad it was helpful! The behavioral questions I refer to are basic ones found in any interview... strengths/weaknesses, working on a team, making a mistake and owning up to it, etc. Best thing to do is look up online common behavioral questions in finance, there are many sources online. Keep in mind the key skills of the role and determine what the interviewer would ask to find out if you have these skills. The second question is the million dollar question in recruiting. How to stand out..... its mostly luck and the strength of your existing social, school, and personal networks. Fundamentally, focus on skills because over the long run, those are rewarded more. Good luck!

Is CB a better path than IB, for an experienced hire (military and consulting) and a family? From a work/life balance and career options perspective?
@robertjames37013 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, yes. Work-life balance is leaps and bounds ahead 40-60 (maybe 70) hrs a week for Relationship Managers and comparable for underwriters…excluding the occasional fire drill. Comp and exit opps are far better on the i banking side, but in middle market and large corporate you can make VERY good money.
