The Norwegian / Icelandic electrician here! 👋 Cory, Thanks for spending the day with me. It was a lot of fun. Hope that we can repeat this... ☺ Just a note on the mistake on my part. The cables that needed to be rerouted were not the right cables mentioned in the video. I misread notes in the report and fixed right cables afterwards. 😅

Cool to take a look at my northern neighbours, NL here. Your wholesaler looks exactly the same as ours, with the scanning etc, ours is just not open 24/7. Your installs also look pretty much the same. Do you have 3 phases a lot in domestic properties aswel?

If anyone is interseted, phase reversal would make a motor go backwards normally but nowadays everything over 5kW is controlled by a VFD and it doesn´t matter if you reverse the phases into the VFD. You would have to switch the phases going out of the VFD or change the settings in the VFD to change the direction of the motor.

Hi Cory, phase rotation - well yes. Many moons ago I was working on a farm slurry pump and yes you guessed it, the phase rotation was out of sync and - boom it blew instead of sucking. The result was not pretty and my boss and the farmer got covered, kept my job but only just !!!!

As a DIYer and looking from the outside in I do agree about wiring under floorboards fuel for the fire. I love cable trays and should be used in lofts so all cable above insulation. Tough if this is more expensive. What price safety. Kinetic switches should now be used in all rooms even the bathroom as I have done. Great video seeing how others work. This is totally not important hit you were half right about the large 3 phase fans used in industry settings. Get a phase out and it will run backward however the majority of dust extraction fans are centrifugal and will always extract. If they run in the wrong orientation the velocity will be significantly reduced (I’ve found typically 1/3rd of the velocity). Like I said, not important but the more you know.

Why would you put a C for a car charger? There is no motor or something to cause a big inrush current. Type B trips at 3 to 5x nominal. At c63A, it will never rush in 250 A for a charger.

@JussiPeltola Жыл бұрын
It is the same for sockets, fitting B breakers will result in nuisance trips after a power cut or brownout when a bunch of switching supplies are plugged in. Unless your loop impedance is poor enough to require B, it is much better to just have C everywhere. In Finland the pre-made boards usually have a random assortment of B and C. If you are lucky they wired the cooker and sauna into the B16's and your sockets into a C16. Otherwise you will have nuisance trips.

Sometimes they are rotated on purpose, for example in apartment 1 you have 123, in apartment 2 you have 231, in 3 you have 312, and when the installations in the apartments are clones of each other, you end up with balanced phases. Obviously you keep the rotation correct. It doesn't make much sense in the input of a large distribution board though, unless the building has 3 or more large boards.

@Ragnar85048 ай бұрын
Having watched a few NL spark videos I was surprised to see that the three phase usually seems to go into three double-pole RCDs in new boards, which then feed a group of MCBs each through L+N bus bars, rather than one or two four-pole RCDs with 3L+N bus bars to the MCBs. Also interesting to see that old Diazed fuse boards had a switch for each circuit after the fuse.

In the NL in domestic single-phase they apparently solve it by calculating housenemer modulo 3 and then the installer (grid supplier) knows which phase to connect in the particular house. Nice job and great video Cory. (I would use flexcon next time at 30:44 to protect the earth wire a little better).
