You got the point with the adapter. Modern lenses use floating element(s) for fast autofocus, but you need to keep exact flange back distance for sharpness. So tolorence for the length of the adapters is very important. I rececently bought the MC-11 with promotion for $149. I genarally like the performance except for the low-light situation. With full time manual focus override and pre-focusing with that, AF speed of adapted canon EF lenses was on par with native 55mm F1.8 Sonnar lens.
@DustinAbbottTWI6 жыл бұрын
Percision is definitely key with getting good sharpness out of adapters. If you got the MC 11 for that price, you did well
@MrJAM-np7go6 жыл бұрын
Dustin Abbott I heard that original Commlite adapter doesn't have internal velvet finish, so internal reflection could affect the image when using wide angle lenses. I hope the newer HS adapter solved that problem.
@DustinAbbottTWI6 жыл бұрын
I don’t see that issue

Does the mc-11 work with canon lenses too? I was under the impression that it only works with sigma lenses
@MrJAM-np7go6 жыл бұрын
HD EDITS Yes. From what I have heard and seen, most of canon made modern digital slr lenses works properly, but some of AF modes(AF-A or DMF...) don't work. It doesn't really work and hunt back and forth in low light, low contrast situation, or small, edge focus point. But generally it works almost same as Canon dslr does. I'm pretty happy with the performance.

There's some videos on Canon lenses on a first gen A7r in CDAF only mode and it looks pretty good, though no one else seems to have tested it with footage.

I did test it both modes on both a7R3 and a73, and I wasn't blown away with either mode. Maybe they actually did better "cracking the code" with the older bodies.

Thank you for this review. I am trying to decide between Commlite and MC-11 for the only one Canon lens I have left - Canon 65mm MP-E macro. At first I thought that is does not matter since this is fully manual lens, but then your comment regarding built quality and flange distance made me think again. Perhaps I should spend a little bit more on MC-11....
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
I do think the MC-11 is worth spending the money on. It produces the most consistently good adapting that I’ve seen.

I can viscerally feel your frustration here of wanting it to work, to deliver. So with the MC-11 is there a new model or version coming in the pipeline?
@DustinAbbottTWI6 жыл бұрын
I’ve advocated for a new model that adds weathersealing, a tripod foot, and a few other features, but I have heard no confirmation that that is being made. On a positive note, however, Sigma has been very good about continuing to release firmware updates that have continually improved focus performance. The sigma MC 11 is my favourite adaptor right now
@milankollar47806 жыл бұрын
Dustin Abbott Does sigma focus better with canon lenses (canon 85mm f1.2ii, 50mm f1.2, 100mm macro v2.8is and 35mm f1.4ii)? I want to buy a7iii in a week and i want to use those lenses on it. Do you recomment sigma mc11 or metabones V.
@DustinAbbottTWI6 жыл бұрын
Metabones seems a little better with some Canon lenses. MC-11 is the best with third party lenses
@LuisGabrielPhotography6 жыл бұрын
I had the 35mm 1.4 L ii and both the MC-11 and the Metabones V. For that particular lens, I actually liked the MC-11 better as long as you are using an A7R3, A9 or A73 if you want to get Eye AF working without having to use the Metabones "advanced" mode.

Dustin Abbott: I've had this adapter from the first day it was available a few months ago (ordered it in Hongkong) and went through two firmware updates since then - the original FW didn't even support the a7III and a7RIII, no aperture control, no EXIF, nothing. Now at least those cameras are supported, but this is easily the worst adapter I've ever tried - and I've tried them all, currrently mainly using the MB V for my Canon L glass and the MC-11 for my Art lenses. Even Commlite's version 1 adapter was much better, at least it worked very well (in CDAF) with a few lenses (EF200/2.8L II, 1.8/18~35 Art) - this one doesn't work acceptably with any of my 10 EF and Art lenses. But at least I can now use it for aperture control and EXIF for my manual Samyang XP 1.2/85 and my IrIX 2.4/15 ;-) At the price this Commlite is a joke - I highly recommend to pay a bit more and get the MC-11.
@DustinAbbottTWI6 жыл бұрын
I had a similar issue with the first one. They sent me a second with updated firmware, but, well, you saw my findings
@mike_MKvipPhoto6 жыл бұрын
When I contacted Commlite a few months ago they told me they can't support the a7II/RIII because 'it is too complicated' *lol* At least they do now, so I can use this for my manaul lenses mentioned above - you can just about forget it for any AF use...

Will this support Eye-AF on selected Canon lenses??? have an MC-11 that I got as part of a kit when I purchased my used Sony A6500. The one drawback with the MC-11 is that it doesn't fully support AF with Canon lenses (or it seems also with Sony lenses other than the several listed as compatible). I would very much like focus in other than the center portion of the frame and i definitely want Eye-AF. I do a lot of shooting with my 85mm f/1.8 Canon and the MC-11 adapter. In face detect, it hits on the eyes a goodly amount of times but, I tend to use this lens in portraiture, wide open and on manual focus. Focus peaking allows me to keep the eye or eyes in focus even in single shot mode. However, I use Eye-AF on my 50mm Sony f/1.8 OSS lens and it is absolutely great!

Hello chat, I have one important question! I want to buy a second hand Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD. The reason is, of course, because it is cheap. I will mount it on a Sony A7RII with the CM-EF-E HS adapter that I already have. These lenses are NOT in the list of the supported lenses for this adapter. I DON'T need a very good autofocus in fact the aperture is the only thing that must work correctly. Will this work? Has anyone tested the adapter with this particular lenses? Thank you in advance!

I haven't personally. The AF is not fast on that lens to begin with, so I definitely wouldn't expect much speed.

The expectation doesn’t meet reality. I have just sent back the Sony A7 III and the MC-11 adaptor plus many small Sony accessories.... I have Sigma and Canon EF mount lenses for my 5D mark III and I disilluded my self beliving I could use at least the Sigma glasses in the A7III. Belive me guys don’t waist your time with these adaptors.... unless you switch camera and al your lenses and accessories from Canon to Sony the is no way to compromise. The only lens of mine that had a fairly good 95% of accurate focus picking was the Canon 50 mm f1.8. All the rest of my lenses, even those tested by Sigma were ridiculous. World you use 80% of your lenses in manual focus only????? At this point I get the 5D mark IV with dual pixel autofocus or I will wait for the Canon full frame mirrorless camera in 2019.... of course the point is video quality and codec.... but....

I belive you Booth and I really enjoy your videos Dustin. It was just my personal experience.... Sigma 12-24mm full frame lens.... autofocus with Sony A7III and MC-11.... forget it. Sigma 105 macro same configuration.... no way Sigma 150-600mm sport.... 50% catcher.... Canon 70-200mm f2,8 work 70% but just in the Middle range... A simple lens Canon 28mm f2,8 no no no way.... going manual.... I really think the A7lll is a fantastic camera but I cannot change everything for this beauty.... plus the slight feeling that Canon products are more robust and reliable.... see the Playmemories App for e ampie.... And Sony lenses are so expensive... for the same or lower optical quality. I was looking for a good camera with high spec in the movie section as well but if I have to go to manual mode all the time I’ll rather wait 2019 or get the 5D IV with its extra large and old video format.... I have no choice Dustin! I was really sad to give it back....
@Sat123it6 жыл бұрын
Well I feel so bad to have sent the A7III back.... I might have given a try with the Metabones adapter. You are probably right but many youtube videos seem to say that Metabones was a lot more expensive but not better than the MC-11.... I wanted to push myself more into video productions but for now I'll do what I can with the FULL HD of my Canon 5D Mark III.... I have also got the Crane 2 gimbal for this purpose and yet another down point for Sony.... The remote app ZY Play works to its best with Canon cameras but not with the Sony.... for example no moving time-lapse with Sony. Yes with Canon.... I think I will wait for the super Canon mirrorless camera !!!! I have heard that Canon put together a special team to develope their "beast".... Let's hope so. Thanks for your kind reply
