Equities will crash and take cryptos with them as Alisdair says. In addition, I expect industrial commodities with them, at least for a time. Even gold could drop back, as it has historically done, then V bottom and go to new highs. But, in this global environment, gold will be under demand pressure feom central banks. So, goldbugs need to stand firm and not get shaken out.

I've just begun learning about value investing, and I've found that many good stocks are undervalued despite their intrinsic value. If you had $200,000 to create a strong investment portfolio, which stocks would you choose for better returns?
@garnold-l5pКүн бұрын
I think a good investment portfolio should have three basic things: ETFs for diversification, dividend stocks for cash flow, and leading tech stocks. With your budget, it's a good idea to talk to a fiduciary financial advisor for expert advice.

Whatever gold reaches, in a worldwide global collapse, the absolute fear through the ensuing panic, will guarantee that silver, at a minimum, returns to its historical 15:1 ratio and because this event will be one for the ages, silver will overshoot as it always does to a jaw dropping single digit ratio. The price of 50 years of playing stupid games is about to be repaid and recompensed. At 19:00...Alisdair mentions that in many countries, one can only swap your local fiat currency by buying gold. He's right of course - Australian Banks, for instance, do not allow private citizens to hold USD, GBP, XAU etc accounts. AUD only. However, in Singapore and Malaysia, having foreign currency and XAU accounts, is quite normal. This probably affects the mindset of the local citizens.
@davebellamy48673 күн бұрын
Good point. In UK, you could hold Euro or dollar accounts. I recall my bank offring an account in £/$/€ but only for customers with some dosh I guess. It probably came with a stock brokerage account. Around 2006-2007. This bank started to offer fewer options though. I didn't have funds to have that account really.

a tonne of gold is about the size of a microwave oven or toaster oven. 1.74 feet X 1.74 feet X 1.74 feet. A kg of gold is about the size of your cell phone. So one tonne of gold would be about the volume of 1000 cell phones. A kitchen refrigerator 36" X 36" X 60 " high is 49 cubic feet, or 8.65 tonne of gold. I think Alisdair is wrong in his opinion about Bitcoin. I cannot see Bitcoin undermining the US dollar as Alisdair says because the rise of Bitcoin also increases the demand for US bonds as they are in demand for stablecoins that back Bitcoin trading. Moreover, Bitcoin is by no means competition or collateral to the US dollar as it is converted into fiat currency when the decision is made to purchase goods and services with the value accumulated in Bitcoins.
@davebellamy48673 күн бұрын
Possibly. I can't work it out. It's uncertain. The US hegemony hates real money (gold) and it needs to devalue it if possible, so it invented a competitor (Bitcoin). It has to be a grand deception because they hate sound money and as Saylor says, BTC is sound money. Sound money of any kind is the arch enemy of central bankers and their pursuit of total power by buying the whole world with printed currency. So they have to be using BTC to steal funds from gold and to try to frontrun the last major runs of the crypto speculative bubble. Reminds me a bit of John Law and the Mississippi Bubble. Ultimately the central bankers have to replace one fiat with another to continue to inflate the new system. Bitcoin is inherently deflationary because it's hoarded and its stock to flow will be high. The more sound it is as money the higher the stock to flow would be as it gets HODLed.

I do hold and accumulate Silver, and know for sure, one day... but the thing that just doesn't make sense is that if gold and silver were actually freely traded, and supply/demand played out as it should, silver and gold would be much much higher (especially since the central banks all around the world have been buying and buying, and yet, in the big scheme of things, the prices have not gone significantly up (sure, they are up, but near the levels they should be....banks are allowed to short the derivatives of silver to such an extent, (millions of ounces not even out of the ground), that they can control the price

Many great points, “Russian economy is in fantastic shape” - way off mark. Basic facts: Russian labour market was balanced in 2022. They didn’t have 20% unemployment and millions of hungry people ready to work for Pennies. Since 2022: 1. 100s of thousands to low millions of smartest, most mobile people left Russia for good. 2. Same number of men got killed or incapacitated in the war. 3. Same number of (mostly) men went to work for the war economy instead of working in all other sectors of economy. They are now paid 5x-10x for making munitions and tanks that get sold to rus. Govt and disappear in the war while not satisfying any non-war consumer demand. Might as well make whatever products, sell them to the army (govt pays for them with rus. Citizens money) and then dump them all into the Arctic ocean. Same economic outcome. 4. Huge numbers of migrants (both legal and illegal) left Russia fearing forced recruitment into rus. Army. They used to do jobs that Russians didn’t want to do, for lowest wages. Nobody filled those positions. Now, how great Russian economy could be with drastic labour shortages (truck drivers, road workers, warehousing, non-war manufacturing, infrastructure maintenance, skilled workers etc etc), Russian govt pumping 100s of billions of USD into their war machine (basically acquiring Easter Ukrainian wasteland for $1mil/sq .ft), one of the highest inflations in the world (23% CB rate), rapid displacement of advanced western technologies and products with inferior and expensive Asian ones(example: ALL western car factories in Russia got closed, 100k workers lost jobs; now Russians buy Chinese-made cars for 3x their invoice price) etc etc etc…?

The economics of globalisation has always had an Achilles’ heel. The 1920s roared with debt based consumption and speculation until it all tipped over into the debt deflation of the Great Depression. No one realised the problems that were building up in the economy as they used an economics that doesn’t look at debt, neoclassical economics. Not considering private debt is the Achilles' heel of neoclassical economics. Black swans take the private debt flight path to come in undetected. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHK2pY2AeLCgmLc At 18 mins. 1929 and 2008 stick out like sore thumbs. In 2008, the Queen visited the revered economists of the LSE and said "If these things were so large, how come everyone missed it?" It’s that neoclassical economics they use Ma’am, it doesn’t consider private debt. Not considering private debt is the Achilles' heel of neoclassical economics. 1) We didn’t see the problems developing in private debt 2) We didn’t know the problem was caused by private debt 3) We used monetary policy to cure a private debt problem with more private debt There is no way out this way. We didn’t fix anything after 2008, and dropped interest rates to the floor so we could carry on as before. We carried on making the same mistakes, borrowing money from banks and using it to purchase assets and push up asset prices. The markets are going up everything must be fine. Wait a minute ...... We’ve blown up an everything bubble. “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Albert Einstein.
