I find that the CEB is lesser than the sum of its parts. It lacks much in the way of literary qualities, so its excellent scholarship is buried within a bland English text. That being said, I think that its take on the letters of Paul is easily superior to what you'll find in other translations of its type (NIV, TEV, NLT). I frequently find myself looking at the epistles and saying, "Yes! They nailed it!" when other translations leave me shaking my head. The Gospels, on the other hand...

I don't consider myself a "one translation only" kind of person. There are some translations that I favor more for certain reasons and other translations that I like for different reasons. Of course there are translations that are just outright bad, but that isn't the norm. Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your experience with this translation of the scriptures. ✌️❤️🙏

What's wrong with their translation of the gospels? I'm curious if I should read the CEB. You've made me want to at least read the Epistles.

@gdub7360 The choice to go with "the Human One" instead of "the Son of Man" is one big issue I have. Both terms sound odd, but one sounds odd in the way it should (as it's a Hebrew idiom being brought over into Greek, then into English), while the other sounds neither English nor Semitic, but more like what a person might be called in a sci-fi show by the aliens around him. Yeah, I know: it's nitpicky, but it really does get grating when you're reading it.

I like the common English Bible generally, but the Lord’s Prayer should have been left alone.
