when someone is trying to merge into your lane, is it the law to give them space so they can successfully merge?

That will depend on different factors. If you have your nose in front, you don't have to allow anyone, but if someone is trying to overtake you relentlessly, what do you do!? If one of the lanes is blocked because of roadworks, giving way is courteous, but you do not have to.

@DrivingSchoolWA we had an uber eats over delivered to us at home the other day, the uber eats driver could not reverse his car out of my driveway even with me standing there to guide him out, he just could not get it right so in the end I had to get in his car and reverse it out for him as I had next door neighbours trying to turn in the driveway to get to their unit 🤦😂
