@ Latrice Jackson HOLY SHIT! I thought I was the only one! My first memory of music is “The Light” by Common! It’s the reason I fell in love with hip hop as well. But I was on the West Cost in San Diego as a little girl on my swing set out in the yard with my dad’s music blasting from the house. I used to sing along with the sample. Wow. Now here I am years later as well. Thank you for your story, it made me realize there are probably many other people out there who have the same love for hip hop because of one song like that. How beautiful that we can be connected despite race, gender, age, location, etc. all because of good music.
