The "no regard for key" is actually quite interesting. Provided that it's used tastefully and within right musical context, it could be really nice as atonal or polytonal music.
@tobins68007 жыл бұрын
Agreed. and the same with single string solos. There is something to be said about simplicity, especially if it is in an uber technical wrapper. Little things can help separate and help highlight other more interesting parts of the song. The constant and incessant finger tapping in the song king dingaling from av7x is a good example, ruined what could have been a solid rock song.
@saidoterodiseno7 жыл бұрын
I've noticed Kirk Hammett doing that sometimes, and it kinda "works". EXAMPLE: Second solo prior to the last verse of "the shortest straw" from ...and justice for all (the little part before the epic "volume swell", LOL). The riff is in E minor and the solo is in G pentatonic minor.

There's a clear difference if you play Master of Puppets with alternate picking as demonstrated below: Alternate Picking: ............ tudu tu tu tudu ............ tudu tudu Down Picking: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TU DU TU TU TUDU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TUDU TUDU If you get what I try to say...
@Elayaass6 жыл бұрын
you don't notice that live, with all the thrash in stage and the mosh in the crowd. and since you're not re-recording master of puppets with metallica, this is just guitar snobery
@hawk61116 жыл бұрын
The verse riff has 9 open e notes before the first power cord. This makes it impossible to do because unless you down pick it all it ends on a down stroke. So you ether miss that last open e and have to correct it with a pause or you get off time.

I haven't made any of these mistakes in ages, I had learn on my own. But I still come back to this video simply because I love the guitar tone. Out of all the KZbin Guitarist, your tone is the best! And is the only tone that I can actually see myself using.

I always tune by ear because after using a tuner it is never in tune. Perhaps I use the tuner wrong but I can get really great tuning by using just perfect fourths. Guitar is so imperfect instrument in regards of tuning anyways.

@@lostanswers122It was a poor demonstration of the "playing a scale up and down is not a solo", since it was more of a nice melodic idea than a thoughtless scalerun. Sure, the phrasing sounded like a beginner, but that same idea, given proper phrasing, could easily be the base for a nice lead or solo. There are many solos out there that are just uninspired scale wankery, but this particular example is not one of them. Also, "scale wankery" does not just refer to good old Yngwie at his most tasteless and uninspired doing endless Harmonic Minor runs, but also Rockers doing repetitive Pentatonic licks and random bends. Freebird solo and Arpeggios From Hell. My two go-to examples of pointless scale wankery. Different scales, same concept. That said, actual scaleruns do have their place aswell, as seen in a lot of Classical, and especially Baroque stuff. Just listen to anything Bach did for a masterclass in how to use plain scaleruns and making them sound extremely musical. There's a time and place for them though, and running up and down a scale as your entire solo, is not it.
