I'm a young MBBS doctor from India. I dream of becoming a cruise ship doctor someday but haven't found enough motivation to pursue it with daily efforts (much expertise is needed for a cruise ship doctor) Seeing your video for the first time and the multiple tough challenges & responsibilities you handle in ur career in ships is giving me inspiration to pursue this ship career dream once again. Respects and salute to you Sir. Thank you very much. Please keep going with your great work 🙌🙏

Dr. You can resolve everything. How did you get the medical training? How did you get the experience?. Most specialist doctors only focus on their area. But you can handle every disease. You are awesome.

It's a great video Dr. Thank you for sharing your knowledge working as a Medical Cruiship Doctor. I would like to ask you, what are the questions of an interview for a ship doctor candidate? Thanks a lot
As far as when you get lots of certain cases at a time. We call those having a sale in my hospital. For example you may suddenly get lots of people in with hip fractures. We always say we are having a sale on hip fractures. Or we may have a sale on appyies or choleys! 😆

Very informative! Do you have labs and X-ray on ships blood transfusions?

Depends on the cruise line.

Each time the ship docks there must be at least a couple folks departing who weren't serious enough to have to be disembarked at sea. I didn't realize the numbers were so great. How often do you have to respond to the place where the person has been injured or fell ill? Are there people specifically tasked with transporting people to the medical center or do you dispatch to them and decide how to move the patient? Maybe you already have a video about it, but it would be interesting to hear how ship life compares with your land based emergency practice.
@deck4forward Жыл бұрын
You must be a paramedic 😉 Yes, there are teams dedicated to transport patients from the scene to the medical center under medical personnel supervision.

Hi Doc, I'm paramedic tehnician with 5y of experience thinking about joining the crew. Could you please tell me how many responders are there in scenarios where you have to reanimate the patient "on the field"? 95% of time I worked with doctor and driver in my team and three people were optimal, but sometimes it was only me and driver and that... wasn't optimal (or legal...). And now three more questions if you'd be so kind: Amongst other equipment, do you bring remote respirator with you? And do you, as a doctor, intubate the patient? Does your defibrilator have self-adhesive electrodes? Thanks in advance.
@deck4forward Жыл бұрын
Hi, 1. Most cruise ships do not have paramedics - only nurses and doctors. Only the biggest ships in the world will have paramedics. 2. Yes, "on the field" resuscitations in full cardiac arrest mode are very common. 3. Ships have ventilators - some are very advanced. Depends on the cruise line. 4. Yes the doctor is the one intubating the patient and setting up the ventilator. 5. Yes, most cruise lines have top notch defibrillators - LifePak, Zoll. Others (Virgin Voyages), not so great defibs. If you are on a Mega ship, you are guaranteed and action-packed contract. All the best.

@@deck4forward Sorry for confusion, in my country "paramedics" are nurses with additional education (BLS, ALS, ITLS...), if we were full on paramedics we would be able to work without doctor on our team. Thank you for the answear, all the best to you too Doc.

How are you Daktari. I'm a doctor from Kenya and looking into joining a cruiseship. I have an ask, who does these orthopaedic procedures like reduction of dislocations and splinting and plastering? Are there orthopaedic doctors on board?

You don't need an ortho to reduce dislocations. You do it.

Hello Doc ! ... You have very interesting videos, with the information that those who are interested in a Cruise ship are looking for (including me). I'd like to know what equipment and procedures could use to do on board, and how is the protocol for air emergency evacuation, how do I decide when to start it. Thank you !
