These are in Northeast Texas too! And yes, if you cut off some bark and/or a thorn, you can chew on it for abscessed tooth pain. If you keep swapping out pieces and placing it on your angry tooth, they can even pull out the infection. I know because I've done it myself. These are absolutely wonderful, VERY medicinal trees, not only for the swallowtail but for us as well. Native Americans used this tree for a lot of different things. Also, there have been no negative interactions or poisonings to date. So, everybody, get one of these trees!!!!

I purchased one the tag states zanthoxylum clava Herculis , hercules club, southern prickly ash. Mine survived the Texas freeze. I need to move it to a better location. I can’t wait to see the flowers and or berries.

"used to be used medicinally"??? Not an herbalist worth his/her salt doesn't know/use Prickly Ash bark &/or berries. I have several ounces of tincture in my cabinet.
