Shadowboxing is a very crucial skill for any fighter learning how to fight. It is a perfect time to refine your technique without being put in harm's way. Although it may seem simple enough, many fighters make mistakes while shadowboxing. Here are a few mistakes I see fighters make while performing shadowboxing. - Danny Castillo

Why would I want to learn anything striking wise from wrestlers

What's your ranking on sharedog? You don't have one? Maybe that's why. You're literally talking down on a man that could box your face off. Just because it isn't Duke doesn't mean you can't learn something from him.

All I'm saying I would like to learn striking from a striker or someone with a striking base...obviously he is better and can outstrike me but thats not the point

Yes that is the point, you learn from people better than you. Dude puts food on the table from breaking faces, if you think you can't learn from him you're a dumbass.

Great video- one of my problems is not fully extending my arms when throwing punches- obviously a huge issue- looking to throw the cross too quickly shortens my jab- I also try to focus on my footwork during shadow boxing as well - stepping forward and bringing my back leg with me.

This makes a lot of sense. My concern is hyper extending my elbow. Should I not follow through all the way with the punch?

Cauliflower ear. Its when a boxer has been hit multiple times around the ear region. Meaning this guy has experience to back up his teachings.
@jangdi.

Your answer is wrong. Cauliflower ears usually happen in BJJ or wrestling. Boxer rarely have that.

Think about keeping thumbs touching your cheeks or forehead as an easy way to keep your hands up.Head movement before and after a combo.

I used to have problems with not looking forward while throwing my punches, I always look at my shadow or my reflection in the mirror. It's a hard habit to break lol xD
@ghostmangeo1229
@ghostmangeo1229 8 жыл бұрын
bro I don't the same thing, but when I'm looking in the mirror I'm tweaking my technique. I'm pretty ocd about it lol..But I wouldn't worry to much about it of course when sparring or fighting that wouldn't happen. but that's what the mirrors are there for. Floyd/cotto/mosely/golovkin/ward etc... all do the same thing i believe it gets them better. Like watching film.. seeing you drop your hand when you jab, stuff like that

+Real Natiiive if you're doing your shadow boxing in front of the mirror, use your reflection as an "opponent, try to hit "yourself" in the head and body. That works.

Should you always clench your fist at the end of a punch in shadowboxing, or is it alright to keep your fists loose all throughout, especially if you're focusing more on flow and coordination?
@YourMakingMeNervous
@YourMakingMeNervous 8 жыл бұрын
I'm no trainer but in my opinion you should ideally throw things in as realistic a way as you can -- it's good to train your fists to clench at the right time every single time.
@gg12345ification
@gg12345ification 7 жыл бұрын
It depends abit if you are having a shadow boxning session to mostly improve speed in your hands you dont need to clench your fists.

just watched a youtube vid of kell brook shadow boxing before this vid. Obv, striking is at a much higher level in boxing than mma. Just the way brook throws punches is light years ahead of this. Nonetheless, good pointers. Thanks.

Might be a dumb question but heard that it puts terrible pressure on your elbow joint when it snaps straight etc, fast extension elbow lock (fast straight jab), is that true ? If so how does one avoid that when shadow boxing?

punching up is not done that way you need full extension on the hand. you should also turn the hands to get more power it also increases your parry chance of hooks coming over the shoulder. by punching in the fashion that he shows you will eat a hook as soon as your hand leave your guard position because your chin is not hidden behind the shoulder.
