'అంజలి..అంజలి..కురిసే నవ్వుల పువ్వుల జాబిలి..' అని బుడిబుడి అడుగుల బుజ్జాయి విషాద ప్రస్థానాన్ని.. ఎంత సున్నితంగా అతని సినిమా చెప్పగలదో.... ' ఓ పాపా లాలి..జన్మకే లాలి..' అని ఓ అమరప్రేమికుడి హృదయ వేదననూ అంతే కరుణరసాత్మకంగా చిత్రించగలదు.. రోడ్డుప్రమాదం నుంచి తనను రక్షించిన కుర్రడాక్టరమ్మతో ' నన్ను మీరు పెళ్లిచేసుకుంటారా ? Fun fact : Post the release of Bombay, some religious extremists threw petrol bomb on Mani Ratnam's house, if it had been any other director they would have chosen to make non-controversial commercial films henceforth, but Mani Ratnam's next film was Iddaru, the most controversial movie in his career.
