Honda CB450 Engine Rebuild Pt 5

In part 5 of our Honda CB450 engine rebuild the cylinder head is installed and torqued in place (copper washers on the studs with oil flow). Then the ever so tricky camshaft alignment and cam chain installation is locked down by pressing together the master link.
Then we move back to the bottom of the engine and install the reminding side covers with new gaskets and stainless Allen head bolts along with any remaining pieces to button up this CB450 engine.

How did you get everything so clean and shiny? I'm getting ready to tear apart a 74 CL450 an can't imagine it ever looking that clean!

I hear you talk about Phillips screw heads.. They are JIS and not Phillips.. That's why you have trouble removing or installing them if you don't have the correct tools.

Just a slip up! We use appropriate JIS bits and screwdrivers to remove them. The trouble comes from the age, thank you for pointing this out!

My Grandson and I disassembled my old 1972 CB450K5 last year, and will be starting the rebuild in a month. Do you have a source for the cam chain tensioner sprocket, as I cannot find just that. Mine is roached out completely round, and I really would like to replace the sprocket alone(rather than the entire tensioner) due to cost. If you can point me to a source for this sprocket, any pointers on removing and replacing the flare pin that holds it on would also be greatly appreciated! Subbed as well guys, excellent series you have created here! PS...I went to your provided link above, but I didn't see the part I need.....The sprocket I am referencing is here 16:37

4:17 Should it be on the compression stroke or does it not matter? I just did the assembly and realized that the three marks just line up wenn I am not on the compression stroke.

Save yourself some trouble with the cam chain, turn your engine upside down!

I am confused here as to why what appears to be the oil pump assembly keeps getting referred to as the oil filter - I do not see a filter element in here at all.

Did the cases need to be opened up to get the cam chain in?

Where can I purchase a new wheel for the cam chain tensioner? And how do you replace it?

I have no mark on the intake cam is there a trick to lining it up

Looking at picking up a basket case 1982 CB450SC. It's what my dad had when I was in high school. I learned to ride a street bike on that thing and got my motorcycle license (back in 1987). Are there a lot of differences between that motor and the earlier CB450's?

Yes, they are completely different animals. 450sc is based on the cb400t. Tough to get parts for.
