on the first point you made, people are going to do what they're going to do; some items are way overpriced, and some people are just trying to move stuff. A perfect example of this is I went to the flea market this weekend and went to one table, and the lady (extremely lovely, not hating) would not move on her $25 price tag on squish mellows that you can get on eBay for $18. I offered her $10 and $15 a piece if I took all of them, and she said no. I went 2 tables down where the other guy had a metric ton of them, asking $5 a piece for smalls and $8 a piece for large ones; I told him I was a reseller and asked how much for them? ended up taking both his tables for $500 ($3 a piece) so far into the net revenue of $1,300, and still have 6 trash bags full. Meanwhile, the one lady is just looking at us slack-jawed, which has always been that way. Some people would rather have a quick dime than a slow quarter, and some people can't look past the "value" and hold onto the item for ages. on the second point, honestly, people can have all the information at their service in the world, and it still won't matter if you don't have the "drive." They won't make it as a reseller; I can't even count how many resellers buy. Outs, I've gone to a lot of people jump into it cause they see what we do and think it's easy without knowing how difficult it is. That's just the sad truth: most resellers don't make it, I wish it wasn't that way, but it is. It's the same in everything. Some Uber drivers are absolutely killing it, making 2k a week, and some can't break 500 a week; real estate agents are making 20k commissions monthly, and some haven't even sold a house in a year. That's just how it works. You can have all the knowledge in the world, but half of what we do comes from experience, for instance. Knowing the Pokemon Yellow version for the Gameboy cart only goes from $25 to $125 is great, but without the knowledge of knowing if its a $125 one or $25 one you might very well get burned, not to mention fees, shipping, best places for boxes if you should use bubble wrap or paper or a box or bubble mailer, all that stuff comes from experience and over half will fail unfortunately so that is my 2 cents lol

I think most "resellers" dont do as well as they say, they make 60-80% of their income simping for likes on youtube. I have ran across a lot of videos pointing things out and I see it more often now. The easiest way to spot that type is if they have clickbait videos and list multiple videos a day. I am a full time reseller. I work 12+ hours a day. I sit down to watch youtube on my breaks. The funniest part is when I watch videos from these people who go to literally the SAME spots and buy the SAME things I left at a sale or thrift store because it wasn't worth flipping and then they brag about how much it "should" sell for. That's how I know these guys are full of it. Most of them straight up lie about the price. They don't show what they sold it for. Some of them aren't even buying the stuff, they're just filming themselves in a Goodwill holding stuff up to the camera and saying "this will sell for X" and not actually buying it. This whole group of KZbin resellers are BS. They want to be e-celebs more than anything.

I've started being serious about being a reseller this year. I truly enjoy doing this. You are going to get the people on their garage sales that's going to charge their items higher to discourage the resellers. Obviously they're not serious about getting rid of it if that's the case. I've had workers at my local thrift encouraging me to start flipping more. I'm pretty sure their receiving area is stuffed full of items that need to get out on the floor. It helps to be nice to them when you are in the stores.

Been to yard sales where I am told it sell on ebay for this amount and others where all they want to do is get rid of it. Usually avoid thrift stores anymore because they know what it is worth which is why most of them have their own online store. You were so right when you said that certain items need a specific buyer I have had items sit for a couple of years and then that buyer comes along. We are here to make money and they are looking to save money so it is a win win
@voodoopat55189 ай бұрын
Great video! I think that the wealth of online information does have a slight negative effect for resellers. Some thrift stores are trying to sell stuff at eBay prices, which I think is probably not the best business decision for them. When prices are near retail, resellers (and most other thrifters) will not buy the items, severely limiting their customer base. Regarding yard sales, the reality is that many people don’t want to try to sell their household stuff online. Some don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling online, and some don’t want to pay income taxes for online sales. Lastly, while it’s clear that resellers do compete for the same stuff, I think that there are plenty of quality items to go around, and that sharing information regarding sourcing is a positive thing.
@indianaslim49719 ай бұрын
Got news for you, thrift stores have overhead that most resellers don't have and need to price the merchandise to make enough profit to keep the doors open. Thrift stores do not care about your profit, nor should they, if a reseller expects low prices from a brick and mortar store they ought to open a store of their own and see how it is selling to other resellers.
@voodoopat55189 ай бұрын

@voodoopat55189 ай бұрын
Indianaslim, that is not news to me. I understand that thrift stores need to make a profit to keep the doors open. I just think that pricing stuff at or above eBay prices probably is not the best price point, especially for collectibles, media, and electronics. When I shop at a thrift store, I’m not looking for yard sale prices, but there need so be some margin for profit. It just seems like there would be a reduced buyer pool if resellers would not be interested in thrift store items, If I am wrong, that’s OK. I have other sources to get inventory.
@indianaslim49719 ай бұрын
@@voodoopat5518 help me understand, e-bay sets the market value of a widget, thrift store with all their overhead sells a widget at the market price and you believe that resellers with little to no overhead costs should get a discount or wholesale price or risk losing them as a customer, what business with a brick and mortar store can compete without selling at the established price point when the competition is selling online out of their garage? It's my opinion that America needs more storefronts that aren't boarded up and less online sales.

You hit the nail on the head when you say "most people know that, they just don't wanna do it." The one and ONLY secret in reselling is this: HARD FREAKING WORK. In my 54 years as both active duty military and civilian, I have found that the large % of people are lazy and don't want to put forth the effort, they want others to do the work for them, or most commonly, they just whine & pout when they find out about the working part. As you mentioned, the super computer in their hand can do LOTS of things, but they just don't want to make the effort.

I encourage sharing. I have been doing this a very long time. 25 years ago I started saying when in doubt part it out. I started saying it more on social media under another handle back in 2016 since then many people have been using the phrase. I even heard you say it. Not saying I invented the phrase, but I never heard it before haha, but in 2016 we started a business selling nothing but parts and recycling. This applies to absolutely anything. We even made a free course where tons of people took it and every single one of them grew their business. One person even 30x their profits. I still do it! I have also been focusing more on the vintage pop culture-type stuff as that's my favorite. Why am I so happy to share this info, Because even with the info, there has to be action. 90% of the people who complain about it are the same people who will not act on it.

The tools are out there especially with google photos and eBay completed and sold as well as filters for most recent and highest first to develop your eye candy for what is really getting the big bucks (like MCM) and what isn’t. You can never go wrong with being a cheaper conservative buyer in the beginning, for me I only spend one or two dollars per item and I still spend over $100 each weekend and condition is everything these days. To make selling easier you actually need several different platforms to sell on, one is P2P among dealers, two is using a online platform like Esty and eBay or even facebook marketplace, three is having a local booth for your items that are hard to ship and items that may have issues that needs additional explanations and of course there are keepers that you like. Now you could sell out of your house like yard sales and even at flea markets. Don’t forget about donations to your local thrift stores for tax deductions as a business. Keep in mind that everyone likes a bargain so don’t over price your items.

I'm not sure what the cause is, but reselling has become WAY more competitive than it has ever been. I used to be able to walk into a sale and recognize one or two other resellers. Now, 80% of buyers at estate sales and thrift stores are resellers, and they know most of the "secret" valuables. Garage sales are different (and better) because not many people are at the same sales at the same time, so it makes for a more equal playing field. I would assume that social media has let the cat out of the bag on a lot of things. I've learned a ton from "KZbin University" as I like to call it, but so has everyone else!!

There's two sides to that tho. With more resellers, it makes the market more competitive. Those of us that like to work hard, we will make it, those that think they can list a couple items and strike gold, wont. The average "reseller" gives up 3 months in and gives up due to a variety of reasons all resellers face. The same as with any market. People come and go.

Omg that’s crazy! Don’t listen to negative comments. Just know that you’re helping the greater population of eBay sellers like you said who are forced to look up every single thing and it’s hard to do when you’re walking through garage sales and don’t know what’s valuable and what’s not. I appreciate your show your channel and what you do and Don’t stop no matter what these people say. I’m in California And I’m still looking at tips I get from people all over the country. Competition is the same everywhere and I appreciated hearing what you said about Goodwill and one of your recent episodes because I just noticed on the exact same day. I watched that episode how my Goodwill here is ridiculous in their pricing absolutely insane and everybody’s trying to make money now. It’s everywhere. It’s not because of you tubers. And if they’re jealous, they should just jump on the bandwagon and become on them themselves. I’ve been on eBay for 24 years since 1998 but I’ve never been as serious as a seller as I have the last two years so I’m learning a lot watching you and a few other eBay sellers that also have KZbin channels.

I bought a Hockey jersey at a garage sale where the owner told me the ebay value and still sold it to me for $5 because they just wanted it gone. Sure there are people who raise their prices at garage sales to ebay prices but they learn the only way to get those high prices is online which most are not willing to do.
@blueridgetreasurehunters9 ай бұрын
Yes! We've had the same. But we've also done the opposite..argue it's worth more than it actually is because they are looking at the asking price not the sold prices. I'm usually happy to explain the difference. Lol😂

I’m young and if you show up at any sale I have 3-4 hours early you’re going to make me mad probably and I’m not going to sell to you for any price early birds get on my nerves

I can see both sides of the coin on like these resale videos on how it may hurt some because some people do see the videos and go all my stuff is worth so much and those are the people that don't want to do the work that comes with having a reseller account that act that way but for the most part when somebody selling something out of yard sale
@dumpsterdivingqponqueen94999 ай бұрын
It's just like you said they know their stuff is worth more they don't want to be a reseller they just want to have a yard sale though a lot of people don't want to be a reseller they know they're they have items that are worth more than what they're selling them for but they don't want to be a reseller they just want to have a yard sale and get their stuff going get the Clutter going so I do see both sides of the argument

4:10 So silly for people to get upset about selling Bibles… where do people think they come from to start with?? Do they think God throws them down from Heaven?? 😂 Believer here…but I have had to BUY all my Bibles! How about you other Believers? If they were given to you… SOMEBODY paid for them to start with… right??

I have been applying a lesson I knew long ago, list daily. Historically I have been a binge lister: list a dozen items at once, then take several days off. I believe the algorithm penalizes such practices. So I switched up to daily listing. Now when I list several items at once, I save several in draft form to handle the days I slip. As far as Goodwill, they have been ruined (high prices) as a source of product for years. The only good finds I get at Goodwill is at their bin stores.

Reselling channels have helped me out when I got in to reselling. To say youtube has hurt the reselling business I would disagree. There are youtube videos about fixing your car, one could say it's killing auto machines. Times change and people need to change with it to be in business.

I saw a video where somebody got a quarter pallet of insanely good clothes. Somebody in the comments basically said they were unsubscribing because she didn’t reveal in the video, nor in the comments, where she got the pallet! I wrote a message back to this person wondering why they felt this way… is it an entitlement issue, or an ignorance problem, or what? I guess trolls will be trolls.

So here is my 2 cents. First, I've always loved yard saling. I used to pride myself on finding cheap Longaberger. Lol. But we didn't decide to try reselling until we happened upon Kevin. He made it look fun, not easy, but fun! So we decided to turn my shopping addiction into selling. But we would have still been looking for those same baskets (not really but you get the idea) if it hadn't been for Kevin, Dave, Cary, etc. Now Kevin has set a min sale, but by him sharing everything he did before, helped us learn what to pick...at no detriment to Kevin's business- as he has stopped selling some of those items because they are now below that minimum sale amount. There is plenty for ALL of us out there. We don't have to be selfish with our knowledge...well, some things are ok to keep just for you, but I'm telling you pay it forward, it will come back around. Thank you Kevin for all you do for resellers. Some of us really do appreciate you! PS...Where's your hat? And how is my Sophie feeling? 💖

For those wondering, getting USPS insurance to pay out when they damage something is a "good luck with that". If they roll a truck over your box, they refuse to pay out unless it has tire marks, and then deny because it's allegedly not their tire prints. It's one reason other resellers have quit shipping really fragile items, other than crazy postage rates that will soon be crazier. (and cutting into reseller profits because buyers will only pay so much in TOTAL for an item. Shipping goes up, selling price drops.) Meanwhile, the UK Royal Mail, once the gold standard, is starting to look more like Italy. THe Italian post has been notorious for decades. It's getting bad everywhere.

I recently sold a large crystal bowl wih a lid and shipped it USPS. It unfortunately arrived with the lid broken. The buyer returned the bowl and broken lid , I filed an insurance claim with pictures to the USPS and received a full refund within 2 weeks.

I think the you tube vids have boosted resellers in general... So there is a lot more competition. I started reselling after watching your vids.

I agree that the culture of online media inevitably altered Goodwill's pricing strategies with no credit to You-Tube resellers. It would have happened anyway.

Agree...AGREE!! and agree with other's similar comments. Abundance mentality or scarcity mentality? And, even though we do resell (items had already been moved to our new location prior) when we moved, OUR own personal items NEEDED to go FAST - we didn't have time to photograph, list, and then WAIT for the sales...and our moving sale prices reflected that. 29 years of accumulation - and we sold CHEAP - to move it! People kept asking if it was an estate sale LOL! Many kept coming back and bringing people and buying more! I think we made about $300 for our efforts - most items at 10cents - and then we donated three truck loads/with trailer! It's a different mind-set from reselling to make a living (or as in our case pay for university tuition and expenses for our son) and to MOVE and just purge things.

I keep no secrets when it comes to reselling. Not on honey holes, not on brands or styles. Because a wise older reseller I know told me when I first started. "Boy, there's enough bread out here for all of us. You think the lord would be ok with you seeing somebody struggle and not even attempt to atleast showing him an option of possibly a better way of life?" Ever since them I showed multiple people on what I've learned. Not many of them are still doing it, but for the few? Life has gotten a little less stressful. If I have to keep working my 9-5 along reselling for a while , so be it. I may not have everything I want, but I have everything I need.
@carolegernett43519 ай бұрын
I am a reseller and do not not shop at any Goodwill stores, I would rather give my money to a local thrift shop with a cause or estate sales where the money goes to the family (of course the sale company gets their share). Just my opinion. Goodwill is a large corporation.

One thing with Goodwill prices no on ever mentions, is prices of EVERYTHING go up, and dramatically in most cases haha. I'm into trading cards and guys complain about packs being 4 or 5 dollars cos they used to be 50 cents or a buck when they were kids. Guess what, things change. I know thrifts have upped their prices based on ebay pricing as well, that's a huge thing for sure, but I mean heck, if they didn't increase prices a little they'd lose money by not keeping up with the economic times. A buck now isn't what it was 20 years ago.

Don’t know why some people get down on you for sharing your knowledge, the topic isn’t a trade secret. People get rid of stuff and don’t want to hassle with it. What bothers me is when people are selling stuff at garage sales and are asking eBay prices. I just tell them politely that I will pas and suggest that they spend the time to list it on eBay 😂

I would say that the buckets only sell well on certain movies. I recently picked up 2 Slimer shaped popcorn buckets for $25 each and sold them for $55 each. I did the same with the last Scream movie and Saw. But I didn't pick up Kung Fu Panda or Wonka because I didn't feel like they would do as well. I was happy to keep one of the Slimers, but they sold fast.

The problem I'm having, living in a small Southern Minnesota town, is that the employees working in the 3 locally owned thrift stores here, seem to be watching Some type of reseller content, but not enough to Really understand how to value things... I think they stop at Google image search, or maybe just eBay listings, to set their prices. I'm super sad that my honey holes seem to have dried up.😥 BUT, "Don't cry for me Argentina"... A half an hour away is another town with great sourcing, And, here comes garage sale season! Yippee! 🎉 Good luck to you all this summer 🙂 As always, Love your show?💕

At a couple of thrift stores they say what the eBay price is. It’s always ALWAYS the higher listed price with zero sold prices. One of them had printed out a listing and there were zero sold. It was still sitting there 9 months later. It might still be there I haven’t gone back there in a while. That money is supposed to go to children with special needs and their families. They could have sold it for less by now and not wasted the storage with it.
