Good deal with the radios. And as always, thanks for sharing.

Static in the ics triggered a thought from long ago. F 4d with aps107 rhaw wiring can generate static in the ics if 2 cb are closed.. The breakers were on rcp left console front under the o2 panel. Old ecm guy

What I like about your vids is that you show the maybe not so glamorous side of aviation, namely the hours/days/weeks/months plugging away on maintenance-items. It's a never-ending game of whack-a-mole in general. Don't think many people realize that.

The conversations remind me of the talking thru problems putting 3-4 minds together on issues involving multi-issues we used to have on my sub 👍🏻🤩👌🏻

As a Phantom sheet basher, that went right over my head.

With that cylinder, I would have suggested to just weld a nut on it and then try again. But the name Diesel Thunder is quite fitting in my opinion since the F-4 was nicknamed "Luftwaffen Diesel" in Germany because of its smoke trails

Agreed.

I hate to say it, but "Diesel Thunder" sounds like a semi-tractor modification channel... Since it seems she's the Queen around there... "Phantom Thunder"...

You guys need to put some heat on that bleeder fitting, torch time! Get it cherry red and it will back right out.
@DieselThunderAviation7 сағат бұрын
We thought about it but decided against it as there is a high likelihood of damaging or melting the piston seals. Otherwise, heat would really help if it weren't for that.

A new wheel cylinder dose cost that much more then a rebuild kit

Not sure, digging into that a little deeper this week. Nice thing is, Harlan Tug still supports these older tugs and we've been able to get parts from them pretty easily and their price is reasonable. Be nice if there's an automotive equivalent we can source locally, as we'll be able to get the tug moving again sooner.

You could have left that stuck bleed nipple and bleed it using the brake hose. Just pump up the brakes with the peddle and hold pressure while someone cracks off the brake hose, then tighten and repeat. We used to remove the pistons and seals and heat up the bleed nipple with a blowtorch to remove. Doesn't always work, though!

The good news about the brakes is that the leaks prevent rust 😂

While at Seymour Johnson, I got assigned the tool room (CTK). On the first day, I noticed a pile of bad com headsets. Since I came from in shop maintenance atmy previous base, I offered to repair them. Each required soldering broken wires and after an hour, had a dozen fixed!

Does this mean a trip to radio shack? FYI I hear Turkey is still has Phantoms, maybe a call.

Have you guys ever thought of getting some trickle chargers for the batteries on your tugs and other 12 volt AGE equipment. Battery Tenders are not too expensive and would eliminate the constant problems you have with dead batteries Just connect them when the equipment is parked/not in use and you will always have a charged battery. I use them on a couple of classic cars that I have and don't drive often.
