I know here in the states will we play if we stay on the gmrs were relatively safe. But if we punch into the ham frequencies they will give a constant broadcasting music to lock the channels open so you can't use them. And I have heard that one field where they did get fine for using the ham frequencies are not the gmrs are the FRS frequencies. Other that's a great little radio man I'm really enjoying it about the extended battery that takes Double A's for mine. And good job on that headlamp from last video picked one up that day

Draiiger it’s illegal to broadcast music on amateur radio bands. It’s actually illegal to “broadcast” period on ham radio... you can however “transmit” if you are licensed.

VoxParanormal I am a licensed ham operator. KD2TME. It is illegal to “broadcast” anything on amateur radio... especially music. Even if you accidentally “transmit” music over the air, that is illegal too. The reason I make a point of difference between broadcast and transmit is because are different actions. No matter you can not put music out over the air using amateur radio period.

5:30 that's not how these headsets work at all :D When you wear it it functions like normal hearing protection, meaning it works for real gun shots just fine. When you turn it on, you get active noise amplification (not noise cancelling), so that you can still talk with people around you and hear footsteps and what not despite wearing ear pro. And to protect your hearing, the noise amplification just has a max value, like 82 db I believe. So when a gun fires near you or someone throws a flashbang into your room, the hearing protection still works, but the noise amplification just plays that sound at 82 db instead of the 150 db it actually has.

That is semi-correct. They actively disrupt loud sounds, as well as work as passive hearing protection. But they also boost ambient noises like you said, but they do actively cut super loud noises.

They're pretty much just shells like passive earpro, meaning if you turn them off or remove the batteries, they function identical to regular earpro and that's how they cut out all noises. The only thing the electronics add is amplifying the quiet noises so that you can listen to your surroundings normally.

I also use the racal setup. Glued a old pair of custom made ear protection with the filter removed and now its perfect. Also removed the metal wire from the earpiece, and run the left ear piece in my right ear, ans the right in my left. Great setup, but the bunzing sound is a bit annoying in the beginning.

Great video. About to follow up on an earlier enquiry to JCI about a racal setup but want to know how reliable and clear is the mic on the racal earbuds? Does your voice come through clear or will it sound distant, windy and get affected by apparel/gear on the head/neck/shoulders rubbing nearby? I have friends with cheap in ear options and they sound awful, hence my hesitance to commission a setup! Thanks

What ear buds do you use on the Racal in-ears? I notice they have a course threaded end to receive a type of ear bud (soft foam outer but with harder internal to key into the helix\thread), but don't know here to get these from? You mentioned this was your standby set, so perhaps you have the foam outer ear buds fitted onto your duty set?

You could get a dummy 148/152 and put your radio inside which you can then place in a normal pouch suitable for the 148/152.

@@ottovonbismarck1375 baofengs are cheap and accessories are cheap. They're also incredibly durable. So I want to stick with a uv5r. I might get a separate 152 pouch for work though

@@crunchyknees3622 like I said, you can place the baofeng in the dummy 152 as it's just an empty shell. The simple dummys are probably $10-$15 and you are still able to hook up all your comms equipment. The dummy is essentially an accessory for the baofeng.

Hey, do you happen to still have the schematic for rewiring the racal frontier? I managed to get some sound in mine by trial and error using the brown wire as "speaker" positive and the black wire as ground, but the volume is so low you can't understand anything. If so thanks ;P

These are supposedly banned by FCC but are readily available on US amazon to buy. Got mine just a few days ago.

They aren't banned by the FCC, it's just that they have access to frequencies that aren't typically allowed for public use since they're made in China (like police and other public service frequencies). So long as you do not transmit over these prohibited frequencies, you are totally within your rights to use these radios. As for requiring a license, however, since these do have access to the amateur radio bands, you are legally required to be licensed to transmit on these radios. You can receive all you want, but it is illegal to transmit without a license. I doubt that anybody is going to get arrested or fined for using them, so long as they're on safe frequencies (FRS frequencies are generally safe to use, between 462 & 467 MHz).

Good over the ears have sound enhancing tech so you even here better than normal with them on. Peltor for example. You do loose a little of perception of where the sounds is coming from. But you get used to it.

Heres a tip for anyone considering using electronic hearing protection. specifically howard leights or walkers razors. Get the howard leights. I went with the razors because they were available locally and I would have had to wait for the howards to be shipped. after one game I regret my decision. The audio is transmitted in mono which works fine for a range trip blastin' with bullet guns. but during bb wars the mono speakers mean you cant hear where the damn shots are coming from at all. serious disadvantage. DO NOT BUY. they work fine for everything else.

The reason that's not around is it'd probably activate whenever you don't want it to, either just you moving, talking to someone else, etc. Or it might constantly hot mic. The only option is either a listen only, something with a proper big ptt, an earpiece with a small ptt, or you can reach and hit the talk button on the radio itself, which would be insanely inconvenient

@@HexaxelThat’s not true, you can transmit on that frequency using FRS radios (I.e. super dumbed down walkie talkies you can buy at Walmart) or with a GMRS radio if you have a GMRS license (which requires no test just a 35 dollar fee) even if you have the GMRS license, you still are not allowed per the FCC rules to transmit on GMRS frequencies with a regular HAM radio, (I.e. baofeng UV-5R which has a version called the GT-5R which is the same EXCEPT is locked from transmitting on the GMRS frequencies, because it is not allowed per FCC) That being said, the chances that you will ever get in trouble are slim to none (as long as you aren’t doing things that will make other radio operators file a complaint with the FCC)

Just a few words of advice. Get your license, be legal, have fun and help others in time of need. Two, the 2 meter ham radio frequencies that are legal to use are 144.000 to 148.000, but if you use said frequencies, and you are not legal, you will be tracked down. Three, That little antenna, or after market antenna you use on said radio, is tuned to work best in the legal limit. Anything outside that above or below and your SWR's, Look that up, will be so bad your radio will start too heat up at the connection between antenna and radio. In time this will destroy both. Just some words of advice from a licensed ham radio operator. Okay, after reading some comments, I believe you are using 446.000, which is in the 70cm band, and falls with in the legal band width of 420.000 to 450.000. So in fact you are breaking the law. Have a nice day.

Remember in the beginning when you stated you knew nothing about comms.... Stick to shooting your toy weapons... The first thing you learn when shooting tactically is safety, team work and efficiency. You have to be safe and efficient but your loyalty towards your teammate is unsurpassed by nothing. You have to place your life in your teammate and they in yours. What you are telling people is based on what? Years of experience? Listen to the older guys that have been in country and on scene at things that you ABSOLUTELY depend on your comms and the ability to work without all that technology. What if you have a battery failure or your mic goes out? You have to learn hand signals and learn how your team or even just your teammate operates. In ops you learn this and it all comes with practice practice practice. In the first 6 months in ops we went through almost 1 1/2 million rounds. Sending things down range is not what it is all about but rather learning muscle memory and the ability to hear and learn your weapon and your teammate and what you share with a word spoken. You will get it and it will be almost second nature, like breathing but do not try to teach others until you have it flawless. Say all you want how I am wrong and have no clue what I am talking about but when you are in your competitions and your team is down and calling for you and you have nothing to offer then tell everyone how wrong they are. This is learning team work and the opportunity to get in sync with those you have chosen to be as part of your team. Learn the word team and then go from there. Hope you all do well and remember that you live your life by a code, an Ethos. It's your shoreline and it's what guides you home. And trust me, you are always trying to get home. The worse thing about growing old is other men stop seeing you as dangerous. It's all a game with Airsoft and all that but the fundamentals is what will build you all as strong. When I watch the real competitions and you are all trying to win then some muscle-head bonehead starts a fist fight or some out of sorts bonehead unloads his magazine on someone downed injured combatant, well that breaks the rules of engagement and that bonehead will long be gone from the game. Build the trust and most important, become a brother to each-other and well I think you all know, NO ONE MESSES WITH FAMILY. I still have close bonds with my team members and those I worked with. That was 40 plus years ago. You will never forget what you learn but learn right and if you are helping others then make sure you are spot on with what you help others with and not some passed on added BS that makes you look cool. When your team enters the arena, let others understand that you are strong on strength and will power and no one beats you or comes between you all. Make sure you look after the man next tot you and he towards you and be safe and smart and keep your focus down range and get back to the end of the day together and all intact and safe. Take care brothers and sisters in this and you will be friends and family forever. Communications are the most important part of the game and gain that upper-hand and invest in strong comms and dependable weapons and all necessary equipment. Invest smartly and find a sponsor that will invest in your team. You will rock this sport and be untouchable. Be well and have fun...
