Someone should train a neural network with both a very clear studio microphone AND a throat microphone so that the neural network can be taught to augment the throat mic input with more highs and other speech details for better clarity (if at all possible).. or maybe even a realtime speech 2 text 2 speech system based? I don't know.. but I think we could do a lot better these days

It's a good idea, kind of like an Ai assisted DSP

iASUS has the Stealth Bluetooth throat mic using their Gen 3 transducers. I use their early corded model, the NT3, and it sounds much better than this one. I believe it has to do with the fitment of the device. iASUS models form a full ring around the neck and allow more customization of the tightness of the band. They're not cheap, but police officers do use them professionally, so take that how you will. Edit: You can see what it looks like here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qajEYWuFdtp3jKc

There are some old Soviet tank helmets that come with them, but you have to mess with the weird old plug to hook it up to a headphone jack (it’s called TSh-4m)

Thanks for the great video! I've been looking at throat mics for quite a few years, for loud environments +/- PPE (e.g. HEMS work), but it's hard to find demonstrations of sound quality (I've wondered whether it would be sufficiently intelligible to novices). Superb idea to use a throat mic with COVID PPE - I had thought the sparsity of radio comms systems were a limiting factor, but of course one could just use a portable speaker (e.g. Philips) to communicate immediately to other clinicians without radios. Brilliant!

Hi Mojoissimo. Thanks for the input. Yes, the throat microphone is just one component of a communication system - the challenge being how to build a system that is both robust and practical for field use. You are good to suggest to a microphone - speaker system.

@@drdonovanwong The iASUS Concepts company came up with that exact bundle with their throat mic + a portable, battery-powered speaker from Philips. I personally think its overpriced and the output a bit wimpy compared to some other portable PA systems you can find on Amazon these days, but it is compatible with the 3.5mm 4-conductor TRRS plug the iASUS uses out-of-the-box. The ones I see on Amazon are of the 2-conductor TS variety. They might still work, depending on whether the internal contacts are placed, but I haven't tested that theory yet. Maybe I should just buy one and return it if it isn't compatible.

Amazing video. We have tried a similar setup (laryngophone and SW radio) for use in my own clinical environment but the sound is nowhere near as clear. Would be great if you felt it possible to share the setup you sourced and used for this.

So what do you recomend? I will start my internship. Using respirator 7503 3m, so they can hear me. What would be the best solution? Thank you

HI..I want to use a throat microphone with a small personal speaker amplifier..which throat microphone would you suggest for that ?
@drdonovanwong3 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to answer this, but you'll have to match up the connector of your microphone to the connector of your transceiver. It varies with brands.
@MikeTrieu3 жыл бұрын
You know, now that I think about it, maybe instead of a laryngophone, you'd be better off with a modem boom mic headset with intelligent digital noise cancellation. You'd probably get more intelligible speech out of those than a throat mic which only really picks up lower frequency sounds and misses a lot of the fricative sounds your lips and tongue make.

can you suggest a boom mic with a long boom which one can use when you are wearing a respirator
