@Max Beaumont I was just thinking the word as you said it "self-aware". And as to the silence and being comfortable with it-I commented on that in context of her song and video "Therefore I am"! And I loved the line where she talks about how she's still just growing and trying different things-very age appropriate. And yeah, I love the self deprecating humour and graciousness when she won best album award and straight up (authenticity again), said she thought she didn't deserve it and Ariana should have won. I like her. And some of that old style lounge singer crooning sound too. I agree with your mom -good analysis! 😉

I have selective mutism and I struggle with being interested in people but I’ve been told that I come across sensitive and empathetic, which is not at all how I would have described my communication style. I think that as soon as I sense like there’s a pressure for me to act a certain way rather than to just be me, or when I pick up on conflicting things to what the other person is saying, I get really confused and upset in quick succession without even noticing it, and suddenly shut down completely. And unfortunately I pick up on those inconsistencies or judgements really acutely (I wish I didn’t), and as soon as I feel remotely judged or a level of inauthenticity, or even a situation in which people are clearly misunderstanding each other or unaware, it’s hard for me to deal with and I get so upset that I start to immediately dissociate. And when it happens in high stakes situations, I have gotten panic attacks. Which just makes the situation even worse. So I prefer to just communicate through writing, it gives me space and time to consider my words at my own pace and to know that the information is complete.
