Protecting endangered species is a constant battle in Latin America, especially because of animal trafficking. According to the World Wildlife Fund, animal population sizes have dropped 94% in the last 50 years, the largest fall in any part of the planet. The most trafficked animals are birds. That’s why correspondent Alasdair Baverstock went birdwatching in Mexico.

We also have a military macaw reserve here in Puerto Vallarta. A similar story of a family dedicated to protecting the area from poachers. Man made nests are built and secure on the tallest trees. Thanks to efforts of this family and the avian veterinarians, the macaw population has doubled also!

Thank God there are decent and responsible humans who understand the importance of being stewards of the land on behalf of the wildlife and the indigenous peoples. Carrying out the vital task of preserving Nature and its ecosystem is a sacred one, and it helps to let the residents understand that moral dimension. Excellent video and I am subscribing.

Growing up over the years we have seen large parrots in cages or in captivity. Seeing them flying free in the wild makes you realize just how big and beautiful they really are. Hopefully, their wild population will again double in another 20 years. Great job by the people of this region in Mexico.

Fabulous job mi amigos. Parrots should all be protected now as there are enough in captive breeding around the world to supply the need as pets. Macaws are wonderful birds. I have had a Yellow Collar Macaw for 29 years and she was a superb companion during her life. I now have a Blue and gold and he is 25 and lovingly sweet as well.
