Also the Mexican government is pretty much in a power struggle with cartels and corruption. The new president is pretty much focused on that. The US can help weaken the cartels by destroying black market migration and drug smuggling (pot at the very least). Legalizing pot and making legal migration easier would effectively cripple the cartels financially allowing the Mexican government to focus more on their foreign and migration policies with the US.

The Mexican Government has its own problems to take care of, problems that exist due to the USA's neocolonialism in the region. Mexico is in a war with drug cartels, putting tons of effort into limiting foreign interference in their affairs, and trying to make the standard of living better for the locals. They're busy, how about you guys stop complaining about people stealing jobs you don't want and crying about crime that's not actually rising. You want crime? Move to Venezuela, you'll see some crime.

1st: This our fellow countrymen don’t respect their own laws, how you expect others to? 2nd: Illegals, by the very nature of being undocumented entry, are unknowns. The government doesn’t have a record of these people so it will be a case of hunting them down or catch of opportunity. Problem is that doesn’t really show a lot of results, so what the government will do is take people with legal entry and then not renew their stay, making them illegal AND with documentation on their home and work making it easier. That is not punishing illegals or reducing entries that is just punishing legals
