100% agree, Joel McHale absolutely nails the delivery here. This is perfectly set up by Jeff's "Shut up, Leonard..." series, so as soon as Jeff says, "Leonard?" I know something hilarious is coming. I always felt that what helps make those jokes so funny is how harmless Leonard actually is. RIP Richard Erdman. He was great in that role.

This is the family as I see it in a sitcom context: *Jeff*: the dad who doesn't really know how to be a dad. God, help him, he's trying, but can you blame him with a family like this? *Britta*: the mom who is just as in over her head as Jeff is, but she's trying to be cooler than he is because the family needs stability *Peirce*: Oldest child. He's also kind of the rebellious fuck up child, partly because he never asked to have that many siblings or wanted to help raise them. He's in desperate need of a school counselor because this is all a cry for help, but will he ever get it? Who knows *Shirley*: The second oldest child who makes up for all of her older brother's messes. She's constantly helping the younger ones, constantly trying to be a good person, but it gets SO annoying because no one wants to actually listen to her *Abed*: Third oldest child and the medically expensive child. He's considered medically expensive because the school referred him to a psychologist twice now, but he couldn't really be diagnosed, and his parents are STILL paying those bills. He's also the mysterious child, always fighting with Shirley because he refuses to let her help him. He just kind of comes and goes and once in a while, they see a camera in his hands or Abed drags some large prop in the house. The parents kind of stopped asking questions, only intervening when it becomes clear this is going to be a safety issue *Troy*: next oldest. Always wants to do what Abed's doing, thinks he's the coolest dude alive. Mostly stays out of the arguments between the children because he's too busy doing random stuff. He's also the only child of theirs that's into sports and even though nobody understands what the hell is happening at his football games, the majority of them are there to show their support *Annie*: The last child. They didn't actually expect to have her in the first place, they thought they were done after Troy. Also needs a counselor because her entire personality is just one cry for help after another. Because the other children are so rambunctious, she took up the lane of the goody-too shoes where she just tries to be perfect 24/7 and tattles on her siblings when they aren't following expectations. Peirce acts like he hates it because it's centered mostly on him, but he secretly doesn't mind because at least someone is paying attention to his health and safety
@bet32402 жыл бұрын
Fun fact about troy: he doesnt like sports. He only does it because he cares too much about what people think of him and wants people to see him as a very masculine figure. Thats also why hes best friends with abed, because he doesnt judge and likes troy for who he is.

jeff and britta are obviously father and mother. shirley and abed are respectively britta's older sister and jeff's younger brother that make passive-aggressive and callous remarks over the table at family gatherings. pierce is the oldest, kind of rebellious but mostly clueless child. troy and annie are respectively middle and youngest child but are basically the same mental age so they pass as twins. for some reason also reminds me of troy's birthday when jeff and britta are drunk in the back and make out in front of abed lmao
