This is rich! I went to college for Human Services Counseling in Atlantic Canada and two months ago I got hired to become a Strategic Coordinator in the schools to understand the reasons for absenteeism and try to bring the youth back to school - I am still figuring out the job and trying to explore a bit more of creativity to approach the students - this video definitely helped provide some insight! Thanks :)

Hello! I’m so glad I came across this video, I’m looking to change careers from fashion merchandising to social work and this role community outreach is more along the lines of what I want to do. I currently have an AAS in fashion merchandising and I wanted to know if there’s a way for me to get into this career WHILE going back to school for social work

i'm glad this video was helpful! And it's possible that you could qualify for entry level positions in this field. All requirements for these jobs are a bit different but i'd recommend you check out these roles in your region.

I've just seen a vacancy for an Outreach Worker for a charity I would like to work with. I don't have previous experience in this field but I have volunteered with the charity briefly before. I have a degree in a completely different field, English Literature, will this possible to transition into this role? If I could talk to someone about their experience as an Outreach Worker I would really appreciate it!

Would you typically need a masters to be a macro social worker/community outreach manager? Also, do you know much about international social work? I would really like to use my degree to help in other countries, but my professor told me international social work is not important or needed, and my program definitely doesn't offer anything in that or community outreach. :(

You can definitely do macro SW with just a bachelors, but the opportunities will really grow with a masters degree. International SW jobs are more competitive, but i would never say it isn't important or valued. Usually you need experience in your home country before qualifying for those roles. Having an area of expertise that you can provide will improve your chances of getting those kind of roles.

Hello, I have a couple of questions about the social work field. I am a senior in high school and due to my location and plenty of other reasons, I will be going to a college where I will be majoring in Psychology instead of Social Work. How can I get into social work with a bachelor's in psychology? Also, I was looking online and I am interested in the Social and Community Service Manager career. I'm not sure if you know but will I be able to get into that career after getting a bachelor's in psychology?

I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology, and I wanted to be a social worker. I now work as a career coach, but I started working in group homes and working with kids that have aged out of the foster care system. Many times, employers are looking for applicants that have that degree in social work. However, many employers may also look at your experience rather the degree. If you want to get the experience, I recommend working or volunteering at a group home, or checking with your county for any jobs they may have. Those positions are generally entry level. Every state has an employment agency. I would suggest going into your local state employment agency for assistance with career development, job search assistance, and they may even have scholarships to help you with school. Hope this helps.
