Those old preheat cfls last forever. I've got one (some no-name brand) that has been used every day since summer 2003 and it still works. Probably because it is used for several hours at a time and it preheats the electrodes for a decent amount of time.

Amazing, a CFL that’s been running longer than my brother has been alive 😆

i have 2 preheat tubes, one t8 and one t12, they haven't been powered on since circa 90s, and they still work in 2024!

2:13 is my favorite. I miss that design where the ends were flat, and bridged together. The newer ones tend to be spiral, or U shaped tubes.

The cfl bulbs that are sold at Home Depot are not bad bulbs. They will last a while just as long as if they are not turned on for more than 7 times a day. Don't use them in bathrooms or other location that will make them turned on for more than 7 times a day

I like these old cfls even if they are Made in China or Mexico because they can run circles around the earth. Rapid or Preheat start is the way to go cause the cathode has time to warm up but the new ones are instant start so they burn out faster making you go buy a new one sooner.
@homeguestunton3 жыл бұрын
If bulbs are made in China or Taiwan do you still like them.
@brave1.03 жыл бұрын
@@homeguestunton Yeah, I don't mind China made, I don't know about Taiwan but as long as they are rapid start bulbs or preheat, then I don't care where they are made.
@homeguestunton3 жыл бұрын
@@brave1.0 Do you like instant start fluorescent or incandescent more?.
@brave1.03 жыл бұрын
@@homeguestunton I like both just depends. I like incandescent Made in USA or Japan. CFL it's ok to be made in china as long as it's got a RS or a preheat ballast.
@homeguestunton3 жыл бұрын
@@brave1.0 A lot of GE and Sylvania bulbs are made in the USA. GE bulbs aren’t anymore. But some Sylvania bulbs are not that much as most are either sourced by GE or made in China. Philips was mostly either Mexico or Poland or China.

Instant start might be okay if they are to be operated on a dusk to dawn light where they aren't going to be turned on and off more than 7 times a day.

I love incandescent, low pressure sodium, high pressure sodium, mercury halide, halogen, fluorescent and the nernst lamp which are basically a variation of the incandesent and they're so rare and old that most people reading this comment has never heard of, (check out Photonic Induction's video to see what I'm talking about.) But there is one lighting technology that I absolutely despise and hate my parents for using them, Light Emitting Diode (LED.) I absolutely despise them, they flicker, the color looks like crap and they're just too bright.
@joeythefoxxo Жыл бұрын
Classic LED hater lol. Good quality LED bulbs have near perfect color, no flicker, and are only as bright as their rated lumens. There is nothing that makes any other technology inherently better. LED’s have a longer life and WAY higher efficiency. The only downside I could ever think of is the price, however most places have rebates now.
