Absolutely love our Chausson Best of 510 which we’ve had from new in early 2015. Best purchase ever…….6m, 4 berth, drop down bed, huge bathroom, loads of living space, can seat six/eight around the table….full size fridge/freezer. No issues. Fiat base….no dodgy injectors like the Ford base of recent years. Probably worth what we paid for it 9 years ago! Great payload….we loaded it up with 4 adults, an e-bike, all luggage for a trip abroad……popped it on the local weighbridge and still had 300kg before the 3500kg limit. If you go for 6m MHs you can easily lose a load of payload.

I’ve had two camper vans but I now have a small motorhome which I like much better. The camper vans were ok but I didn’t like the washroom in either and for some reason there always seemed to be a draught around the rear doors. My motorhome has a separate shower and it’s at the back so no rear doors to cause a draught. It also seems to be far more comfortable and spacious too.

Having had both types, the camper is easier to drive in traffic and down lanes, particularly in 5.4 m form. The coachbuilt is more roomy and has better insulation. They tend to be very similar prices when new and when used. Campers tend to be more rigid but are surprisingly heavy. Often it is the compact coachbuilts which have better payloads, when plated for 3500Kg. The 6.3 (maxi) Campervans can have very poor payloads unless plated above 3500Ks.

@ davidhayes4814 . Thanks for that extra information re payload and for sharing your own experiences I appreciate that. Thanks again.

I think I'd go for the campervan, because as you Jason have said on a previous video you are less likely to get problems with damp or mould later in live with a vehicle that started life as a van. But everyone to his own. Cheers guys 👍🐸

I would love just a van, but I want a bathroom with shower and toilet. Nice for weekends or a few weeks at max when you have to go to the toilet in the kitchen and shower outside, but I plan on going full time and then I just want a bit more comfort like standing up normally and a seperate bathroom. 😊 But I sure like some of the converted vans.

We had a massive drop from 7.5 m motorhome to vw camper but soon adapted to the smaller space.we did it because of parking and having to keep going to storage plus alot of damp issues put us off having another one.but we love the freedom and not having worry of so many seals and joints leaking.enjoying the videos.enjoy the comparison videos .helped us alot

For me, a small campervan is more versatile. Easy to drive and park, can be used as second car or even a removal van. Only works if there are just two of you and don't have any pets. We also use ours as day van when we go to the coast but each to their own.

Without watching the video I can tell you slimline compact motorhome over a campervan all day everyday …. Less weight and therefore tons more payload , fully insulated body for warmer in winter cooler in summer , complete square walls at the top so more space , a normal easy access door instead of the long sliding door to get in … only advantage people tell me is no leaks in panel van but I’d wouldnt keep a motorhome for long enough for it to start leaking 😊

Both great vans. I guess it depends on your usage. Hopefully when I eventually get one I’ll be heading around the Uists, Bannau Brycheiniog, Cornwall etc. And the narrower van would be better for us.

Aldo Jason it’s a bit like comparing apples to pairs . A more similar comparison would be the narrow body 2.1m wide coachbuilt 5.4 to 6m long and therefore exact same size as a panel van

I think it might depend a little on what you want to do, if you have bikes and want to go somewhere for a few hours then the coach built one would be great as the garage would allow you to securely store bikes and extra stuff. The Fiat is ok but what I would call a weekend wagon, the bed might be ok but not for everyone. I think a purpose built design would in most cases be better than a conversion as it’s not a compromise.
@tonysutton65597 ай бұрын
I'd be happy with either one and could take them on tour for weeks but the coachbuilt sneaks it because of the washroom and the ease of setting up the third bed. The one downside is the transverse bed if the person at the back needs the loo in the night.

Yes totally agree Tony.👍

I love the Chausson space, but love the van because you can just park up / stealth camp incognito. 🤷♀️ A deciding thing for me would be having the side door on the kerb-side (Uk) rather than the Road-side.
@Flaggyt7 ай бұрын
I hear people say that vans are stealthier, I don't really think so but let's just say that it true for argument sake. Why is stealth needed (in Europe) you want to stay at places where it is not allowed? You know you are ruining it for everyone else then with more legislation, cause everyone sees at a mile away that it's a campervan.

At first I would’ve said I’d say that the campervan would be the best for me and my ridgeback but as i and my dog are not as active as we once were it would have to be the chausson but that’s not to say there’s anything wrong with the van it’s more easy to work with motor home, nice video though Jason and as for Kevin he brought up valid points.🤩

I have a 6m compact but am considering a campervan so that I could use it as a day van too. Although the moho is only a short one it is still a large vehicle for eveyday use and cotrary to what many people say they do not fit in a supermarket parking space- not even close.

Maybe a silly question, so here goes. When you drop down the single bed in the video, we see it as sleeping the width of the van. But, if sleeping lengthways can over the cab be used to turn it into a double?

The one stat i didnt hear was the prices/value? Also oerhaps running costs? Tax, mpg, insurance group. Ive a vw t5 and wondering about a change to something bigger for more confort on holidays with a fam of 4. The t5 is great for me or me and the missis but gets cramped come bed time and evenings unless u have the awning out. Would love the extra space but would lose the convenience and utility of the t5. The t5 is also a daily drive for me.

❤ I like both of them but I think I would go for the camper van, because it doesn’t stand out as much as the Motorhome making it a safer option for traveling and parking up. I also like the bigger bed in the camper van. Storage is good. The Motorhome is a good buy plenty storage in the garage section but the main bed isn’t for me. The single drop down wouldn’t be any use to me. They will both sell no problem. Ps Looks like the Bathroom in the Motorhome doubles as a shower is that right?

Hi there yes the shower does 👍

Coachbuilt over conversion every time for me. A coachbuilt has been purposely designed built and installed to fit on a chassis. A conversion is about making things fit in a space that is already restricted so there will always be some compromises
