Okay, before I continue let’s not beat two ways about this: people did this because robots with flamethrowers are awesome. Flamethrower go “BRRRT.” But in a practical use, you COULD try deploying these to help combat wild fires. Firefighters, in attempting to curb the advance of a raging fire, will beat the fire to the punch by burning away a segment of the forest with controlled blazes. I believe it’s called a “fire line,” but I do not know what it is called for certain. In any case, without access to additional fuel, the fire can’t advance and everything beyond the “fire line” gets to survive. Deploying a fleet of these to help in-field firefighters set up fire lines is not the WORST idea I’ve heard of.

Yes, AZ firefighters are some of the best at limiting casualties because they make firebreaks ahead of the fire, deny it additional fuel past a point, and let it starve itself.

I can see this being super helpful for fire departments. Fighting a wildfiring moving many miles per hour is a very scary thing for firefighters to fight. What they do is burn an area ahead of time so the moving fire has nothing new to burn.

There is an engineer that designed a BB gun that has autonamous aim to track and shoot Nerf darts, while the Nerf is in motion, changing the Nerf's trajectory. Men use the same tactic to fight fire, but instead of putting people at risk, it's a robot doing it.
