I must admit, I do like a bit of data. it was a great excuse to crank up my statistics software!

This is incredible. Just ordered Phigolf the other day...coming in soon. Never knew I could do all this. Exactly what I was looking for. THANKS

Great! You'll have fun with the Phigolf technology.

The club head speed inaccuracy is due to the fact that it needs to model the club length to determine the velocity, given that the IMU is on the grip end of the club. So if you're a person with longer or shorter arms then your speeds will vary more than the average person using average clubs.
@ChangeGolfInstruction2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you are right, Jason. The training club is supposed to account for those variables -- but I don't think the algorithm is sophisticated enough...yet.
@thewattbomber2 жыл бұрын
@@ChangeGolfInstruction The training Phigolf sensor cannot account for those variables as it has no idea about the users arm length as well as their club weight and lengths. If the app allowed the user to input this in, then it would probably provide a much closer estimate. Also, the other source of inaccuracy is the inherit issue that IMU's have when it comes to tracking their own positional data, they can't with great accuracy as to do so it needs to integrate on the IMU's velocity to get displacement which when doing so, the displacement data quickly reaches infinite (IMU's generally measure only linear acceleration, rotational rate, and sometimes heading). This shortcoming of not having proper displacement data is also the reason why Phigolf and many other IMU based sensors cannot detect the club strike on the Y axis (thinning or fatting the ball) and also giving a perfect shot (minus the club path and face angle). However having said all of this, 10 yards in carry distance is not really that much.
@ChangeGolfInstruction2 жыл бұрын
That makes complete sense. Thanks for your input. As you say, it's not perfect -- but it isn't bad -- especially considering its convenience and its price. The first sensor I saw like this was about 20 years ago from an MIT lab. I can't remember the name of that technology but they were definitely ahead of the curve.

Hi, sorry this is indeed the thread I meant to ask on - any update on whether Phigolf now gives more correct distances? Since the Phigolf is estimating club head speed based on rotation speed of the opposite end of the shaft - your total club length has to be the same as its assumptions. So when you have it on the end of your own club, if they assume say - a 7 iron with an inch longer shaft (average women's 7 iron shaft is 36", mens iron shaft is 37"), then we would expect it to overestimate the club head speed when used on a women's 7 iron if it is assuming a standard men's 7 iron. Similarly if the Phigolf club is lighter/has lower momentum - you might well be swinging it as fast as it says your are.
@ChangeGolfInstruction2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Phi golf seems to keep updating it algorithms. Sometimes I think they have it so it is more accurate. Then it seems to over estimate swing speed and distance again. As you explained, it is never going to be totally accurate becasue of how it measures and what it assumes. But I still find it useful feedback for other swing metrics -- like path, face, and tempo.

I would have to say no. I recently got mine and have been playing around with both the practice stick and placing the sensor on real clubs. I find I have to swing the crap out of my club to try and gain the most club head speed and still end up 20-30 yrds shorter than I hit irons. Example, I swing the hell out of my 7iron (Stronger than I would ever swing it in real life) and only get about 140yrds. I typically hit my 7 iron 160-165yrds with a nice easy swing.
@ChangeGolfInstruction2 жыл бұрын
@@kerryagnew6180 That is interesting. Generally, I have found the sensor to overestimate the distance. Maybe they have made a change to the algorithm.

@nickchoo10852 жыл бұрын
Because it is the software based tool, they should a calibration factor added to the game. If you know you hit 100 yards for pitching wedge in real life and Phigolf said 120, you will multiply 0.83 to the reading of Phigolf so it will report 100 yards for your wedge shot.

Good idea. I'm surprised they haven't done that. 👍

Im getting a 9 degree out to in swing path on my PHIGOLF. I purposely try to hook. Still get a slice. How do you know if club FACE angle is what you want? Thanks enjoy the channel.
@ChangeGolfInstruction3 жыл бұрын
Good question. The slice comes from the disparity between the path and face. So if your path is 9 degrees out to in, your clubface could be square to the target and you'll still get a slice (because it's open to the path). If I were you, I'd work on getting the path more neutral first and then see where you are. To do this you'll probably have to feel it's really exaggerated in the other direction.
@ChangeGolfInstruction3 жыл бұрын
@UCAuCxlve0Dk8c0AHg-YWxbQ you're not pushy! Phigolf should give you data on where your clubface is relative to it's starting point. If your path is in to out and your face is closed relative to it, you won't slice. Can you send a screen shot of your PhiGolf data when you slice?

Hi, as someone who's new to golf and not particularly good(I suck), does it register if I miss the ball? Or say hit the ground? I don't have clubs and use my friends usually so I'll be using the phigolf club.
@ChangeGolfInstruction3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. If you are using the Phiclub it will probably still register some thing. If you have the sensor in the end of a real club it will still register something. I hope that helps.
