I got a new Folio in the mail from and Ebay purchase, and it gives me a chance to compare Folio versions of George Orwell’s 1984.

I picked up a 1972 Folio Society version of Middlemarch. If I didn't tell you, you'd have thought it was a Heritage Press edition. Except, even Heritage Press would have had more illustrations. No matter. I still love it. :)

I’ve noticed the early Folios and Heritage Press were about the same in terms of style and design.

Yeah toss up for me too, lover them both but if I had to pick, probably the newest one. I really need to invest in a new copy of 1984. I only have my ratty old paperback I've had for like 20 plus years 🤣🤓 love that book!

The copy I read was checked out from the library in Kansas City about 25 years ago. No telling where it is now.😁

03 is better. Newer stole the cover design from the movie. Another small press had a version to. Sorry dont remember . Maybe Easton press. On KZbin there's a BBC VERSION. With Peter Cushing as Winston. 1957 or so. It is excellent. As is the Richard Burton version.

I think I prefer the ‘03 illustrations, but somehow the color contrasts on the cover screw with my eyes, and I have trouble seeing the gold lettering. I am red-green colorblind. That’s my excuse.😁

What a great trilogy 1984 was. Personally I prefer 1985 from the three books, with 1986 being my least favourite.

@@itsterrific Big fan of the prequels, but I think Arthur C Clarke went to far with 2001 and 2011, even with the endorsement of the Orwell Family he was pushing his luck.

As far as I know, you’re right. I’ve never read 1985, and don’t even know if it’s in English. Smalltown was just having fun and I was playing along.

All books take a beating. Hence, I can't stand it when I receive a book in just a padded envelope.
